What Bancor Network is

Bancor is an ecosystem of decentralised, open-source protocols for on-chain trading and liquidity. Its main product, Carbon, lets users place automated trading orders on-chain, including custom limit orders, range orders, and combined orders that aim to buy low and sell high. A separate protocol, Fast Lane, lets any user perform arbitrage between Bancor protocols and external on-chain exchanges and send the profits back to the Bancor ecosystem. Bancor launched in June 2017 and was one of the early projects built around automated market maker pools. Its project materials say Carbon was designed to address two problems with existing on-chain liquidity: executed orders can be reversed when prices move, and a single liquidity position has to handle both buys and sells on the same pricing curve.

What the BNT token is used for

BNT is the token of the Bancor ecosystem. According to Bancor's project description, all of its protocols are governed by the BancorDAO through staked BNT, so holders who stake the token take part in governance decisions. Public descriptions also say BNT holders can claim a share of protocol trading fees, and that the token is used to protect liquidity providers against impermanent loss. Impermanent loss is the risk that a liquidity provider ends up with less value than simply holding the two deposited assets. Whether those mechanisms work as described in practice depends on the current version of each protocol, so readers should check the latest documentation before relying on them.

Supply and market data

At the time of writing, as of 2026-11-05, BNT traded at about 0.29 US dollars with a market capitalisation of about 28.9 million dollars, ranked 668th by market value. Daily trading volume was about 1.4 million dollars. The price was down about 0.2 percent over seven days and about 41 percent over one year. Circulating and total supply were both about 98.8 million tokens, below a stated maximum of about 110.5 million, so some tokens could still be issued under the project's rules. The all-time high was about 10.72 dollars on 2018-01-08, and the all-time low was about 0.12 dollars on 2020-03-12. These figures change constantly and are included only as a snapshot.

Chains and issuance

BNT is issued on the Ethereum blockchain. It is not described as the native token of a separate chain. Its contract address and token standard should be confirmed on the official project channels before any transfer, because copies of tokens with the same name are common. Trading volume and liquidity can vary a lot between platforms, and a price quoted on one venue may differ from another. Readers who want to hold BNT should also understand how Ethereum network fees affect transfers and staking.

Risks and storage

BNT is a volatile asset. Its price has fallen sharply from its 2018 peak and has moved a lot over short periods, so losses are possible. Liquidity providers face impermanent loss, and the protocols are smart contracts that could contain bugs or be exploited. Governance through staking also means that token holders carry responsibility for decisions that affect the protocol. Holders who keep BNT should use a wallet they control and protect their seed phrase and private keys. Anyone who buys from a third-party platform should check how that platform stores funds and whether it is licensed where they live. This page does not offer investment advice, and readers should do their own research before buying or selling.

BNT FAQs

What is BNT used for?

BNT is the token of the Bancor ecosystem, which includes the Carbon trading protocol and the Fast Lane arbitrage protocol. Public project materials say BNT is used to govern the protocols through staking. Bancor's descriptions also link the token to fee sharing and impermanent loss protection.

Which blockchain does BNT run on?

BNT is issued on Ethereum, and the project materials do not describe it as the native token of another chain. Confirm the contract address on official project channels before sending or swapping tokens.

What is the market cap of BNT?

As of 2026-11-05, the approximate market capitalisation was about 28.9 million US dollars, with a price of about 0.29 dollars. These figures change constantly, so check a current data source before making any decision.

Circulating and total supply were both about 98.8 million tokens at the time of writing, and the stated maximum was about 110.5 million. This page does not predict future supply or price.

What is impermanent loss in the context of Bancor?

Impermanent loss happens when the value of deposited tokens in a liquidity pool changes relative to each other, leaving the provider with less value than if they had simply held the tokens. Bancor's materials say BNT is used to help protect against this, but the outcome for any individual position depends on market moves and protocol design.
