## What is Alto DUSD?
Alto DUSD, or DUSD, is a stablecoin created for Alto, a decentralized credit and incentives protocol. It is designed to track the US dollar and is backed by collateral within the protocol. DUSD is the only asset that can be borrowed across Alto’s isolated markets. Those markets are separated so a problem in one market is intended not to spread directly to others; isolation does not remove the risks of lending or borrowing crypto assets.
DUSD is not the same token as ALTO. DUSD is used as the stablecoin in Alto’s credit markets, while ALTO is described as the protocol’s governance token. ALTO stakers govern the protocol and receive a share of protocol fees, according to the project description. That distinction matters when assessing what holding DUSD may do: it is intended to serve as a dollar-linked asset, not as a claim to ALTO governance or fee distributions.
## How DUSD is used
Alto users can borrow, lend, mint and use DUSD to build leveraged positions, with assets such as ETH, liquid staking tokens (LSTs) and tBTC serving as collateral. In practical terms, a borrower puts eligible collateral into a market and borrows DUSD against it. Lending DUSD may let users participate in the protocol’s credit activity, but returns, rates and the conditions for using each market can change. Public sources do not establish particular rates or guarantee earnings.
DUSD’s role as the common borrowable asset is meant to simplify accounting and the movement of funds between Alto’s markets. The isolated-market design is also intended to limit how risks in one market affect another. These are protocol design goals, not a guarantee against losses. Users should understand the collateral rules, liquidation conditions and market-specific risks before using DUSD in lending or leverage. Borrowing against volatile collateral can lead to liquidation if collateral values fall or market conditions change.
## Price, peg and supply
DUSD is intended to remain close to one US dollar, but a stablecoin’s target is not the same as a guaranteed redemption value. Its price can move away from the target as market demand, liquidity, confidence and protocol conditions change. On 2026-11-04, DUSD was reported at about $1.001, with a market capitalization of about $1.8 million. These are time-sensitive figures, not a promise of future value. Reported historical extremes included about $1.084 on 2026-10-30 and about $0.972 on 2026-03-12, illustrating that the price has not always been exactly one dollar.
At that date, circulating and total supply were both about 1.80 million DUSD. No maximum supply was reported. The supply can change as users mint or repay DUSD and as protocol activity changes; public sources do not specify a fixed cap. The reported 24-hour trading volume was unavailable, so it should not be treated as zero. Check current market and protocol information before relying on a quoted price or supply figure.
## Ethereum and wallet storage
DUSD is reported as issued on Ethereum. It is not listed as the native token of a blockchain. That means users should distinguish the Ethereum token from other assets that may also use the ticker DUSD. A ticker alone does not prove that a token is the Alto asset, and similarly named stablecoins on other networks may be unrelated.
To hold DUSD, use a wallet that supports Ethereum tokens and confirm the token’s official contract details through Alto’s own trusted channels before adding or transferring it. No contract address is stated here, so do not identify the asset by ticker alone. Sending DUSD to an incompatible network or an incorrect address can result in loss. When interacting with Alto, check that the selected market and network match the asset you intend to use, and take care with approvals that let a dApp move tokens from your wallet.
## Risks to understand
DUSD carries both stablecoin risks and protocol risks. Its dollar target can fail to hold, and public sources do not detail the collateral mix, redemption process, reserve controls or independent audits. Without those details, holders cannot infer that each DUSD can always be exchanged for one dollar. Market liquidity may also be limited or change quickly, making it harder to trade at the target price.
Using DUSD in Alto adds smart-contract, collateral, liquidation and market risks. A contract vulnerability or an issue with collateral can affect users, and isolated markets do not eliminate every shared or system-wide risk. Borrowers using leverage may lose collateral through liquidation. Holding DUSD in a self-custody wallet also means protecting the recovery phrase and checking transaction details; anyone who obtains wallet credentials may be able to take the tokens. Consider whether you can tolerate these risks and verify current protocol information before using the stablecoin.
