Our verdict on UWU Protocol
5.0/10UWU Protocol suits experienced Stacks users who want a stablecoin loan against STX without ongoing interest and who read open-source code. Its main strengths are the simple vault model, over-collateralization and the no-interest, no-deadline loan. The main caveat is size: very little value is locked, no audits are listed and the savings feature is not live. Treat it as an experimental protocol and deposit only an amount you can afford to lose.

What is UWU Protocol?
UWU Protocol is a stablecoin and lending protocol built on Stacks, the smart contract layer anchored to Bitcoin. It lets holders of STX borrow UWU Cash against their deposit without paying interest and without a repayment date.
The homepage emphasizes permissionless access: no checks, no approvals and no personal information. Beyond borrowing, the product set includes a swap aggregator, a Stability Module for low-fee swaps, vault liquidations and access to third-party liquidity pools. A savings rate is listed as coming soon.
The protocol is small. Its tracked value locked is only a few thousand dollars, and the homepage snapshot dated mid-2024 showed about $19,000. It has been listed since March 2023 and has no native governance token, since the UWU ticker refers to the stablecoin itself.
How UWU Protocol works
UWU Protocol is a collateralized debt position (CDP) system. You lock STX, the native token of Stacks, in a vault. Against it you mint UWU Cash, a stablecoin that aims to trade near $1.00. You can borrow up to 66% of the dollar value of your deposit, so every UWU is backed by at least $1.50 of STX.
Borrowers pay no ongoing interest. They pay a one-time fee when borrowing and can repay whenever they like to unlock their STX. If the STX price falls and a vault becomes under-collateralized, other users can repay its debt and take its collateral at a discount. This keeps the stablecoin backed.
Around the core loan, the protocol adds a Stability Module for swapping UWU at predefined rates and a swap aggregator that routes trades across several liquidity sources. It also gives access to third-party liquidity pools. The contracts are open source, and the project describes itself as governance-free and immutable, meaning no one can change or freeze the protocol.
7 features
Key features
01
Zero-interest borrowing
Deposit STX into a vault and borrow UWU Cash at 0% interest. A one-time fee applies at borrowing, and there is no fixed repayment schedule.
02
Over-collateralized stablecoin
UWU Cash is a soft-pegged stablecoin backed by at least $1.50 of STX per UWU. Several mechanisms are used to keep it near $1.00.
03
Vault liquidations
Users can repay the debt of liquidated vaults to receive their STX collateral at a discounted rate.
04
Stability Module
Swap between UWU and other assets at predefined rates. The project says this works without slippage and with low to no fees.
05
Swap aggregator
UWU Swap aggregates liquidity from decentralized exchanges and the Stability Module. It lets users adjust slippage, routes and sources in one transaction.
06
Liquidity provision
The web app gives access to third-party pools, where users can provide liquidity and earn trading fees and rewards.
07
UWU Savings Rate (planned)
Depositing UWU is meant to earn a savings rate paid in UWU, with no limits, fees or lockups. It is marked as coming soon.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Zero ongoing interest, with a one-time borrowing fee and no repayment deadline.
- Over-collateralized design, with at least $1.50 of STX behind each UWU.
- Contracts are open source under GPLv3, and the codebase is described as under 1,000 lines.
- Governance-free and immutable design with no admin token to vote on.
- No personal information is needed to borrow.
- Includes a swap aggregator and a low-fee Stability Module alongside the lending product.
Watch out for
- Total value locked is tiny, at a few thousand dollars on the tracker and about $19,000 on the homepage snapshot, so liquidity and community scrutiny are thin.
- No third-party audits are listed, and the project does not publish any on its homepage.
- The UWU Savings Rate is marked as coming soon, so the earning side is not fully live.
- The size of the one-time borrowing fee is not stated on the homepage.
- The stablecoin is only soft-pegged, so it can trade away from $1.00, and a sharp drop in STX can trigger liquidation of a vault.
- The homepage still invites users to join a beta, and the latest news items date from 2023.
UWU Protocol fees
The project advertises 0% interest on loans. Instead of a variable rate, a one-time fee is charged when you borrow. The homepage does not state the percentage, so check the web app or documentation before opening a vault.
The Stability Module is described as having low to no fees. Savings deposits are described as free of fees and lockups, but that feature is not live yet. Normal Stacks network transaction costs apply to on-chain actions, and liquidity provision on third-party exchanges carries those pools' own fees and impermanent loss risk.
Is UWU Protocol safe?
No audits are listed for UWU Protocol, and the homepage does not publish any. The project points to open-source code under GPLv3 and a small codebase as its answer to verifiability. Fewer lines of code are easier to review, but that is not a substitute for an independent audit. The protocol is described as immutable, so a bug could not be patched in place.
Collateral is custodied in smart contracts, so users face contract risk, STX price risk and liquidation risk. The stablecoin is soft-pegged rather than hard-pegged. The project does not publish a team, a licence or a regulatory status. Searches for similar names bring up exploits at UwU Lend, an Ethereum money market, but the project does not connect that project to UWU Protocol.
6 steps
How to get started with UWU Protocol
- 1
Read the documentation to understand vaults, the minimum collateral level and liquidation rules.
- 2
Get a Stacks-compatible wallet and fund it with STX.
- 3
Open the web app and connect the wallet.
- 4
Deposit STX into a vault and borrow UWU Cash. Stay well below the 66% maximum to leave a safety margin.
- 5
Check the one-time borrowing fee shown in the app before confirming.
- 6
Monitor your vault's collateral ratio as the STX price moves, and repay when you choose to get your STX back.
Who UWU Protocol is for
UWU Protocol is for STX holders comfortable with vault-based borrowing who want liquidity without selling. It also suits developers and Stacks DeFi users interested in a small, open-source, governance-free design. It is a poor fit for anyone who needs audited, large-scale infrastructure.
UWU Protocol FAQs
What is UWU Protocol?
UWU Protocol is a stablecoin protocol on Stacks. Users deposit STX into a vault and borrow UWU Cash against it, with no interest and no repayment date.
How much can I borrow against my STX?
You can borrow up to 66% of the dollar value of your STX deposit. The stablecoin is over-collateralized with at least $1.50 of STX for each UWU in circulation.
Is borrowing really free of interest?
There is no ongoing interest. The project says a one-time fee is applied when you borrow, but the amount is not stated on the homepage, so check the web app or documentation before borrowing.
Has UWU Protocol been audited?
The project says its contracts are open source under GPLv3. No audits are listed for it, so users carry smart-contract risk and should size their deposits accordingly.
Is UWU Protocol the same as UwU Lend?
No. Public reporting for similar names mostly concern UwU Lend, a money market on Ethereum. UWU Protocol runs on Stacks and is a collateralized stablecoin system, and nothing here links the two.
What happens if the value of my STX falls?
Vault owners can lose collateral if their position becomes under-collateralized. Liquidators repay the vault's debt and receive its STX at a discount. Keeping a healthy margin above the minimum collateral level lowers that risk.
