ActiveSpectra V1 Review 2026: Fixed Yield and Yield Tokens
Spectra V1 is the earlier version of Spectra, previously known as APWine, which splits yield-bearing assets into fixed-rate principal tokens and variable-rate yield tokens. It is a niche tool with a small TVL and no audits listed on DefiLlama.

Our verdict on Spectra V1
5.8/10Spectra V1 suits experienced DeFi users who understand maturities, discounts and variable yield and want to lock a fixed rate or trade yield exposure. Its main strength is a clear mechanism that separates principal from yield. The main caveats are the small TVL of about $178,586, no audits listed on DefiLlama, and the fact that the current Spectra product has moved on to a broader multi-chain design. Beginners should read the docs first and start small.

What is Spectra V1?
Spectra V1 is the earlier version of Spectra, which DefiLlama describes as a protocol for speculating on the yield of other DeFi protocols and hedging passive income by turning it into futures. The listing text refers to APWine, the former name. It is tracked under Yield Aggregator on DefiLlama, but it works more like an interest rate derivatives market.
The V1 listing runs on Ethereum and Polygon and has been tracked since December 2021. Its TVL is about $178,586, with a 7-day change of -3.3%. DefiLlama shows a token called SPECTRA and no audits for this entry.
The current Spectra homepage presents a broader product. It describes a permissionless interest rate derivatives protocol with fixed rates, yield leverage, liquidity pools, MetaVaults and governance, across many networks. This review stays on the V1 facts and flags where the homepage describes newer features.
How Spectra V1 works
Many DeFi assets earn yield over time, for example a lending deposit or a liquid staking token. Spectra takes such an asset and separates it into two parts. The Principal Token (PT) represents the underlying value, and the Yield Token (YT) represents the yield the asset earns until a set maturity date.
A PT trades at a discount to the underlying asset and redeems 1:1 at maturity. The gap between the discounted price and the redemption value is the fixed return. A YT is cheaper than the underlying asset and captures the variable yield, rewards and points, so a small amount of capital gets larger exposure. If realised yield comes in below what was priced in, YT holders can lose money.
PT and YT trade on an automated market maker built for interest rates, and liquidity providers earn fees from those trades. The newer Spectra product adds MetaVaults that roll positions over at maturity automatically. This review covers the V1 listing, so check the current docs for what applies to each version.
7 features
Key features
01
Principal and yield split
Interest-bearing assets are split into Principal Tokens and Yield Tokens. Each can be held or traded separately.
02
Fixed-rate yield
Principal Tokens are bought at a discount and redeemed at maturity for a fixed value. This gives a known rate if held to maturity.
03
Yield leverage
Yield Tokens give amplified exposure to variable rates, rewards and points. The homepage cites 10-50x yield leverage.
04
Liquidity provision
Users can supply liquidity to pools and earn trading fees on top of their existing yield, with impermanent loss minimised according to the app text.
05
Permissionless markets
The homepage says anyone can create yield markets on any asset, without gatekeepers.
06
MetaVaults (current Spectra)
The current homepage describes MetaVaults where curators handle strategies, rollovers at maturity and compounding. This belongs to the newer product.
07
Vote-escrow governance
The homepage mentions veSPECTRA, gauges and incentives as part of governance.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Clear mechanism: fixed rates through Principal Tokens and variable exposure through Yield Tokens
- Lets users fix a rate on yield-bearing assets, which few DeFi products offer
- Permissionless market creation on any asset, per the homepage
- Governance and incentive design with gauges and veSPECTRA
- Active, maintained site with docs, a GitHub link and a security page
Watch out for
- TVL for this V1 listing is only about $178,586, so liquidity is thin and trades may move prices
- DefiLlama lists no audits for this entry, and the project does not say what reviews the contracts have had
- Yield tokenization is hard for beginners, and leveraged yield exposure can lose value quickly
- The V1 listing covers Ethereum and Polygon, while the current Spectra site describes a wider multi-chain product, which can confuse readers
- The name is shared with unrelated projects such as a 'VC Spectra' pre-sale that one web result calls a scam
- Fees and V1 wind-down status are not stated publicly
Spectra V1 fees
The project does not publish a fee schedule for Spectra V1. Costs likely include network gas on Ethereum or Polygon and trading fees in the interest-rate pools, but the exact figures are not stated.
Public reporting says liquidity providers earn trading fees. Users should check the app and the documentation for current pool fees, and expect price impact in pools with low TVL.
Is Spectra V1 safe?
DefiLlama lists zero audits for this entry. The project does not describe the contracts' review history, custody model or any incidents. Users interact through their own wallet, but they carry smart-contract risk and the risk of the underlying yield-bearing asset.
Thin liquidity adds market risk, and yield leverage magnifies losses. Do not confuse the protocol with 'VC Spectra', a separate pre-sale that a web result calls a scam. Check the official domain, read the Security page and only risk money you can afford to lose.
6 steps
How to get started with Spectra V1
- 1
Open the official Spectra site from a source you trust and check the domain carefully, since other projects use similar names.
- 2
Read the user documentation on principal tokens, yield tokens and maturity before depositing anything.
- 3
Check the Security page for audit reports, and note that DefiLlama lists none for this entry.
- 4
Connect a wallet that holds a supported yield-bearing asset on the right network, such as Ethereum or Polygon.
- 5
Start with a small amount, and choose Fixed Rates (PT) if you want a predictable return at maturity.
- 6
Check the maturity date, the discount and the pool liquidity before confirming, and track your positions in the Portfolio page.
Who Spectra V1 is for
Spectra V1 is for experienced DeFi users who hold yield-bearing assets and want to fix a return or speculate on future yield. It is not suited to beginners or anyone who cannot tolerate smart-contract risk and thin liquidity.
Spectra V1 FAQs
What is Spectra V1?
Spectra V1 is the DefiLlama listing for the earlier Spectra protocol, which the listing description also calls APWine. It splits interest-bearing assets into Principal Tokens and Future Yield Tokens. Users can then lock in a fixed yield or trade exposure to future yield.
What are PT and YT on Spectra?
A Principal Token is bought at a discount and can be redeemed for a fixed value at maturity, which gives a predictable return. A Yield Token represents the variable yield, rewards and points the underlying asset earns until maturity. The homepage says Yield Tokens can be claimed to a wallet at any time.
Is Spectra V1 audited?
The project does not say. DefiLlama lists zero audits for this entry, but that is not proof that none exist. Check the Security and Documentation pages on the official site for audit reports before depositing.
Which blockchains does Spectra V1 run on?
DefiLlama lists Ethereum and Polygon for Spectra V1. The current Spectra homepage names many more networks, including Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, BSC, Sonic and Avalanche. Those belong to the newer product, not necessarily to the V1 listing.
Does Spectra have a token?
DefiLlama lists a token called SPECTRA, and the homepage mentions veSPECTRA for governance and gauges. The project does not detail the token's supply or rewards. Third-party price pages in public reporting vary and are not verified here.
Is Spectra related to VC Spectra?
No. One search result describes a 'VC Spectra' pre-sale and a Medium post calls it a scam. Nothing links it to the Spectra interest rate protocol. Always confirm you are on the official domain before connecting a wallet.
