Our verdict on Rho X

6.0/10

Rho X suits experienced DeFi users who want to hedge or speculate on staking, lending and perpetual funding rates, or who want a vault exposed to those markets. Its main strength is a clear niche with a funded team. The main caveats are small TVL, no listed audits and unpublished fees. Beginners should read the documentation first and start with small amounts.

What is Rho X?

Rho X is the trading product from Rho Labs, a company founded in 2022 according to a startup news feed. It describes itself as a crypto-native interest rates market. Users can trade staking, lending and perpetual futures funding rates in one venue, and can also deposit into vaults to earn yield.

Coverage in public reporting says Rho Labs raised a $4M seed round and launched Rho Protocol on 31 March 2025 on Arbitrum after a beta. One article states more than $58 billion in cumulative trading volume. This is a company-linked claim and we could not verify it independently. DefiLlama lists the protocol since 22 October 2025 under Interest Rate Derivatives, on Ethereum, with about $585K in TVL and no audits listed.

The product serves a narrow audience. Interest rate markets are standard in traditional finance but still rare in DeFi. Rho X sits in that gap, and its small TVL suggests it is early.

How Rho X works

Interest rates in crypto are variable. Staking yields, lending rates and the funding payments on perpetual futures all move with market conditions. Rho X offers markets where these rates can be traded, so a user can take a view on where a rate is heading or swap a floating rate for a fixed one.

The homepage summary says users can lock floating funding into fixed rates. A trader who pays perpetual funding, for example, could use this to make the cost more predictable. Another trader could take the other side and earn from the rate.

Rho also runs vaults for people who do not want to trade actively. A USDT vault page says it earns a share of revenue from Rho USDT markets and uses two strategies, one of which is providing liquidity. Vault returns depend on market activity and are not fixed.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Targets a real gap in DeFi: hedging or speculating on funding, staking and lending rates.
  • Combines several rate types in one venue.
  • Offers passive vaults for users who do not want to trade actively.
  • Backed by a disclosed $4M seed round and a company operating since 2022.
  • Reports of high cumulative trading volume suggest some real usage, though unverified.

Watch out for

  • No audits are listed on DefiLlama, and none are named publicly we reviewed.
  • TVL is small, at about $585K, so liquidity may be thin for larger trades.
  • Fees, margin rules and liquidation mechanics are not published in the material reviewed.
  • Interest rate derivatives are complex and hard for beginners to price or hedge.
  • Its homepage available was minimal, so product details rest mostly on DefiLlama and third-party posts.
  • The chain setup is unclear: DefiLlama lists Ethereum, while launch coverage mentions Arbitrum.

Rho X fees

Trading fees, vault fees and any performance or withdrawal fees are not published publicly we reviewed. The vault page says depositors earn a share of the revenue the markets generate, which implies the protocol takes some fee, but no rate is given.

Users should check the Rho app and its documentation for current fee schedules, funding mechanics and network gas costs before trading or depositing.

Is Rho X safe?

DefiLlama lists no audits for Rho X, and the project does not name any security firm, bug bounty or insurance cover. Treat the smart contracts as unverified until the project's documentation shows audit reports. Users interact through a wallet, so custody stays with them, but deposited funds are exposed to contract risk.

Derivatives add market risk: rates can move sharply, and leveraged or illiquid positions can lose money. TVL is small, which can mean wider spreads. Public sources show no incidents and no regulatory status, so neither is claimed here. This is not financial advice.

6 steps

How to get started with Rho X

  1. 1

Read the Rho documentation and confirm what each rates market and vault does before depositing.

  2. 2

Check which network the app currently supports and confirm the official site address.

  3. 3

Connect a compatible self-custody wallet to the app.

  4. 4

Start with a small amount of the supported stablecoin, such as USDT, to learn the interface.

  5. 5

Review the fees and the variable yield or rate shown before confirming any position.

  6. 6

Monitor open positions and vault balances regularly, since rates change.

Who Rho X is for

Rho X is aimed at traders and funds who already understand funding rates and yield, such as basis traders and stablecoin yield seekers. It is less suitable for newcomers, who may find rate derivatives hard to evaluate.

Rho X FAQs

What is Rho X?

Rho X is an interest rate market built by Rho Labs. It lets users trade staking, lending and perpetual futures funding rates in one place, and it also offers vaults for passive yield.

What does fixing a funding rate mean on Rho?

The homepage meta text says users can lock floating funding into fixed rates. In practice that means taking a position so that a variable rate, such as a perpetual funding rate, becomes more predictable.

Does Rho X have a token?

No. DefiLlama lists the token as none, and public sources we reviewed name no native token. Unrelated assets with a similar ticker may appear in price public reporting.

Has Rho X been audited?

DefiLlama lists no audits for Rho X. That does not prove the code is unaudited, but readers should check the project's own documentation for security reviews before depositing.

Which blockchain does Rho X use?

DefiLlama shows Ethereum. A March 2025 launch announcement in public reporting mentions Arbitrum. Check the app to see which network is currently supported before sending funds.

Can I earn yield on Rho X without trading?

Public reporting shows a vault page for USDT. It says the vault earns a share of revenue from Rho USDT markets and uses two strategies, one of which is providing liquidity. Yield is variable and not guaranteed.
