Our verdict on Omni

5.5/10

Omni Network suits developers and informed crypto users interested in connecting Ethereum rollups through one layer 1 chain. Its main strength is a clear design: validators secured by staked OMNI and restaked ETH, with relayers delivering messages across rollups. The main caveat is the lack of published detail in the sources reviewed, including audits, fees and team information, and uneven market data for the token. Verify everything against the project's own documentation and start small, if at all.

What is Omni?

Omni Network is described across several write-ups as a layer 1 blockchain that links Ethereum's rollups into a single system. The pitch is that developers can build applications that tap liquidity and users from all of Ethereum's rollups instead of one.

The network has its own token, OMNI, which pays relayers, acts as gas on the Omni EVM, and is used in governance and staking. One source reports that the project raised about 18.1 million USD in two private rounds, covering roughly 20.1% of total token supply.

The project's homepage could not be checked, and details such as audits, team and fee tables are not published in the sources reviewed. Treat the picture as incomplete and verify against the project's own documentation.

How Omni works

Ethereum applications are increasingly split across many rollups, each with its own liquidity and users. Omni sits between them as a separate chain that records cross-rollup messages in one place.

A message starts on a source rollup. Omni validators, a permissionless set of nodes using CometBFT consensus, verify it. Once it is finalized on the Omni blockchain, relayers submit it to the destination rollup and are paid in OMNI for doing so.

Security comes from a dual staking model. Validators stake OMNI and restaked ETH, and the combined value is meant to back the correctness of the messages they approve. The same chain also runs the Omni EVM for ordinary smart-contract transactions.

6 features

Key features

01

Cross-rollup messaging

Omni is built to carry messages between Ethereum rollups through one chain, so a single app can act across several networks.

02

Universal gas resource

OMNI pays relayers who submit transactions to destination rollups, so one token covers delivery costs across networks.

03

Omni EVM

The Omni EVM is the chain's own execution environment, with OMNI as its native currency.

04

Dual staking model

Security is described as the combined value of staked OMNI and restaked ETH, tying the network to Ethereum's economic base.

05

Permissionless validators and relayers

Validators run CometBFT consensus, and relayers who deliver messages are described as permissionless.

06

Token governance

OMNI holders are meant to vote on protocol upgrades and additional developer features.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Targets a real problem: liquidity and users are fragmented across Ethereum rollups.
  • Security design combines staked OMNI with restaked ETH rather than relying on a new token alone.
  • Validators and relayers are described as permissionless.
  • OMNI has defined roles in gas, relaying, staking and governance.
  • Funding history and token roles are described consistently across sources.

Watch out for

  • The project's own website could not be checked, so claims here rest on exchange and listing write-ups rather than first-party documentation.
  • Audit reports, team details and fee schedules are not published in the sources reviewed.
  • Security depends on both staked OMNI and restaked ETH, which adds layers of smart-contract and economic risk.
  • Cross-rollup messaging is a category where bridge-style exploits have caused large losses across crypto.
  • Reported market data for the OMNI token varies widely between sources, so liquidity and current valuation are unclear.
  • The name is shared with unrelated products, including a casino brand and an older token, which makes research confusing.

Omni fees

The sources reviewed do not publish a fee schedule. What they describe is that OMNI is the payment used to compensate relayers who deliver transactions to destination rollups, and that it is also gas on the Omni EVM.

Exact costs would show in the wallet or app at transaction time. Anyone buying the OMNI token will also pay whatever trading fees the exchange or DEX they use charges.

Is Omni safe?

The sources reviewed do not mention audits, bug bounties or past incidents. Cross-rollup messaging protocols hold significant trust assumptions, because a flaw in message verification or validator behaviour could affect connected rollups. Check for published audits before using the protocol.

The dual staking model adds exposure to restaking risk. Users who hold OMNI also face market risk, as reported prices and volumes vary widely across sources. Regulatory status is not stated, and the sources reviewed do not describe any licensing for the project.

6 steps

How to get started with Omni

  1. 1

Confirm you are looking at Omni Network, the Ethereum rollup interoperability protocol, and not another project that uses the Omni name.

  2. 2

Find the project's official documentation and verified links through its own channels and cross-check the OMNI token contract address.

  3. 3

Read any published audit reports and the staking and governance documentation before moving funds.

  4. 4

Use a wallet that supports Ethereum and the Omni EVM, and try a small transaction first.

  5. 5

If you buy OMNI, check the liquidity and trading venue first, since reported volumes differ widely between sources.

  6. 6

Developers can look at how to send cross-rollup messages from their rollup of choice using the project's docs.

Who Omni is for

Omni Network is aimed at developers building apps that need to reach several Ethereum rollups, and at crypto users comfortable with staking, restaking and cross-chain risk. It is not a simple consumer app, and newcomers should be wary of how complex the underlying trust model is.

Omni FAQs

What is Omni Network?

Omni Network is described as a layer 1 blockchain built to link Ethereum's rollup ecosystem into one system. Developers can build applications that reach users and liquidity across rollups by default.

What is the OMNI token used for?

OMNI pays relayers who deliver transactions to destination rollups, serves as gas on the Omni EVM, and is used for governance. It also takes part in a dual staking model alongside restaked ETH.

How does Omni move messages between rollups?

Validators run CometBFT consensus and check cross-rollup messages and Omni EVM transactions. Relayers then submit finalized messages to the destination rollups.

Has Omni Network been audited?

Not in the sources reviewed. Readers should look for published audit reports from the project before relying on it, since a cross-rollup protocol carries smart-contract and validator risk.

What does it cost to use Omni?

The sources describe the protocol design but give no fee schedule. Costs would appear as the OMNI gas paid to relayers and as network fees on the Omni EVM, and users would see these in the app or wallet at the time of a transaction.

Is Omni Network the same as Omni Slots casino?

No. Omni Network is an interoperability protocol. Public reporting for the name Omni also return an unrelated online casino brand, so check that you are on the right project.
