edgeX is an orderbook-based perpetuals exchange built on StarkEx and incubated by Amber Group. It is fast and self-custodial, but its airdrop drew insider-allocation criticism.

Good
Our verdict on Edgex
6.8/10edgeX suits experienced derivatives traders who want an orderbook perp DEX with self-custody on StarkEx. Its strengths are reported low-latency matching, up to 100x leverage and a wide set of markets spanning crypto, commodities and equities. The main caveats are the controversy around the EDGE airdrop's insider allocation, the absence of audit and team details in the sources, and the high liquidation risk that comes with heavy leverage. Beginners should start small and verify fees independently.

What is Edgex?
edgeX is a decentralized trading platform for perpetual futures, described as a 24/7 layer for global assets. It lists perps across crypto, commodities and equities, plus spot markets. It is reported to be incubated by Amber Group.
The design is an orderbook with a high-performance matching engine, rather than an automated market maker. Third-party write-ups highlight fast fills, up to 100x leverage and self-custody through StarkEx.
The project also has a token, EDGE, which had its token generation event on March 31 for users with points or XP. Reports of insider allocation in the roughly $195M airdrop followed, and the team responded. Aggregator listings show EDGE as a mid-cap token with a market cap around $126M at one snapshot.
How Edgex works
A perpetual futures contract lets you take a long or short position on an asset's price without an expiry date. You post collateral as margin, choose leverage, and your profit or loss follows the price. Funding payments between long and short traders keep the contract price near the spot price.
edgeX runs this on an orderbook, the same structure used by centralized exchanges. Buyers and sellers post bids and asks, and a matching engine pairs them. This differs from AMM-based perp protocols that price trades against a pool.
Settlement relies on StarkWare zero-knowledge technology. Trades are batched and proven on-chain, so users keep self-custody of funds while the matching engine runs off-chain for speed. The trade-off is that users depend on the correctness of the matching engine and the proof system.
7 features
Key features
01
Orderbook perpetuals
Trades match against a central limit orderbook rather than a liquidity pool, which gives familiar limit and market order behaviour.
02
Low-latency matching
One review site reports sub-10ms fills from a high-performance matching engine, aimed at active traders.
03
Up to 100x leverage
Reported leverage reaches 100x on perpetual markets. Higher leverage sharply raises liquidation risk.
04
Multi-asset markets
Beyond crypto pairs, edgeX offers perpetuals on commodities and equities, with trading available around the clock.
05
Spot trading
The platform also lists spot markets alongside its derivatives products.
06
StarkEx settlement
Settlement uses StarkWare zero-knowledge proof technology, and users keep self-custody of funds.
07
EDGE token and points
EDGE is the native token, distributed to early users through a points and XP programme at launch.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Orderbook design gives a centralized-exchange-style trading experience
- Reported speed claims include sub-10ms fills
- Self-custody with zero-knowledge settlement on StarkEx
- Markets span crypto, commodities and equities
- Reported fees starting at 0.012%
- Backed by Amber Group, a known crypto financial firm
Watch out for
- The March 2026 token launch and airdrop drew insider-allocation allegations, which the team has responded to
- 100x leverage can wipe out a position quickly and suits only experienced traders
- Fee levels come from third-party write-ups, so the live fee schedule needs checking in the app
- Audit reports, team details and regulatory status are not stated in the sources reviewed
- Smart-contract, bridge and perp-specific risks such as liquidations and oracle issues still apply
- The EDGE token is a mid-cap asset and its price can move sharply
Edgex fees
The sources do not give a full fee schedule. One review site reports trading fees starting from 0.012%, which would be competitive for a perp DEX, but the exact maker and taker rates by tier are not confirmed here.
Perpetual traders should also expect funding rates between longs and shorts, plus network or withdrawal costs. These appear in the trading interface and the official documentation, and should be checked before trading.
Is Edgex safe?
edgeX uses StarkEx, a widely used zero-knowledge settlement system, and says users keep custody of their funds. The sources do not give audit reports, bug bounty details or a track record of incidents, so these should be checked in the official documentation.
Several risks remain. Smart-contract and bridge bugs, matching-engine failures and oracle problems can all cause losses. High leverage can liquidate positions quickly. The airdrop allocation dispute is a governance and trust concern, not evidence of stolen funds. Regulatory status and licensing are not stated in the sources; check whether derivatives trading is permitted where you live.

Edgex FAQs
What is edgeX?
edgeX is a decentralized trading platform for perpetual futures on crypto, commodities and equities, plus spot markets. It uses an orderbook rather than an automated market maker, and settles through StarkWare technology.
What are edgeX's fees and maximum leverage?
One review site reports fees starting from 0.012% and leverage up to 100x. Fees can vary by market and account tier, so check the live schedule in the trading interface before opening a position.
Is edgeX non-custodial?
edgeX describes itself as self-custodial, with trades settled using zero-knowledge proofs on StarkEx. That reduces reliance on the operator holding your funds, but it does not remove smart-contract, liquidation or market risk.
What is the EDGE token?

Is edgeX a scam?
There is no evidence in the sources of funds being stolen. However, critics raised allegations about insider allocation in the $195M airdrop, and the team has responded. Read the allegations and the response yourself, and only risk money you can afford to lose.
Who is behind edgeX?
The project is described as incubated by Amber Group, a crypto financial services firm. Beyond that, the sources reviewed do not name team members or detail licences.
