Our verdict on Bybit
7.4/10Bybit suits active traders who want deep derivatives markets alongside spot, P2P and earn tools in one account. Its main strength is the breadth of products and reported liquidity. The main caveat is that it is custodial and has had an uneven regulatory record, including the French blacklisting and exit. Beginners should start with spot and the demo environment, avoid leverage at first, and check that Bybit is available in their country before depositing.

What is Bybit?
Bybit is a centralized crypto exchange that started as a derivatives platform. One review site reports it was founded in March 2018 and now serves over 20 million users in more than 160 countries. It has since added spot trading, options, P2P, a fiat gateway, earn products, bots and an NFT marketplace.
Its derivatives business is its main draw. A media quote on its promotional page describes it as a bigger bitcoin futures exchange than CME, with derivatives volume rising 18% to $133 billion. A review site also puts daily volume above $10 billion, though that figure is promotional and single-source.
Its regulatory record is mixed. France's AMF blacklisted the exchange in 2023, and it left the French market in early 2025. It then reportedly obtained a MiCA licence, allowing full operations across Europe from July 1, 2025.
How Bybit works
Bybit is a centralized exchange. Users deposit crypto or buy it with fiat, and the exchange records balances in its own system. Trades match on Bybit's order book rather than on a blockchain, which allows fast execution but means the platform holds your assets.
Spot trading is a direct swap of one asset for another. Derivatives such as perpetual futures let users take long or short positions with leverage, which magnifies both gains and losses and can lead to liquidation. P2P lets users trade with each other, with the platform acting as intermediary.
Beyond trading, Bybit offers earn and yield products, bots and automated tools. Users should treat each as a separate product with its own risks and terms.

Pros and cons
What we like
- Wide product range covering spot, derivatives, options, P2P, bots and yield
- Strong reported derivatives liquidity and volume
- Fiat gateway and P2P options for buying crypto
- Demo trading and tutorials for newcomers
- Reported MiCA licence allowing European operations from July 2025
- Large reported user base across many countries
Watch out for
- Custodial model: users hold balances on the exchange, so they carry counterparty and platform risk
- Regulatory history in Europe includes a blacklisting by France's AMF in 2023 and a withdrawal from the French market in early 2025
- Availability depends on jurisdiction, and some regions have lost or restricted access
- Fee schedules are not set out here, so cost comparisons require checking the live fee page
- Derivatives and leverage products can cause fast losses for inexperienced traders
- Claims about user numbers and daily volume come from promotional or single-source write-ups
Bybit fees
Bybit's trading, funding and withdrawal fees are not published in the material reviewed here. They are set per product (spot, derivatives, options) and typically vary by account tier, so users should read the fee schedule on the exchange before trading.
One review site says P2P trades carry no transaction fees for buyers or sellers. Even then, the price offered by the counterparty and any payment-method costs can affect what you pay in practice.
Is Bybit safe?
Bybit is custodial, so deposited funds sit under the exchange's control. Risks include platform failure, security incidents, withdrawal restrictions and regulatory action. Users who trade should keep only what they need on the exchange and move long-term holdings to a wallet they control. Bybit's audit and reserve disclosures are not covered here, so check its published proof-of-reserves reports and incident history.
Regulatory status has shifted by region. France's AMF blacklisted the exchange in 2023, and it withdrew from the French market in early 2025, forcing users there to withdraw assets quickly. It then reportedly secured a MiCA licence, effective for European operations from July 1, 2025. Confirm that Bybit is legal and available where you live.
Leveraged derivatives are high risk and can lead to losses greater than expected. Use strong passwords, two-factor authentication and anti-phishing protections, and be wary of unofficial links and referral pages promising large rewards.

Who Bybit is for
