VARA

Vara is a layer-1 blockchain built on the Gear Protocol and the Substrate framework. It is not EVM-based. Programs are written mostly in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly. They run as independent actors that talk to each other through asynchronous messages, which lets the network process work in parallel. Security comes from nominated proof of stake, where validators produce blocks and token holders back them by staking.

The native token is VARA. It pays transaction fees, is staked to secure the network, and is used in on-chain governance. Gear's design also supports models where an app covers fees on behalf of its users, which can make onboarding easier for people who do not hold tokens yet. Exact fee levels can change, so check them in a wallet before you transact.

Vara's dApp ecosystem is still small. At the time of writing, DeFi total value locked is only about $20,976, and we have no dApps listed for the chain yet, so we cannot name any leaders. The network's pitch is aimed at games and other apps that need fast, low-cost interactions rather than large DeFi markets. Check each app's reputation and permissions before connecting a wallet.

Vara FAQs

What is Vara Network?

Vara is a layer-1 blockchain built on the Gear Protocol and the Substrate framework. Programs run as WebAssembly rather than on the EVM, and they are usually written in Rust. It is aimed at apps that need fast, parallel execution.

Is Vara EVM compatible?

No. Vara does not run the Ethereum Virtual Machine, so Solidity contracts do not deploy there without changes. Developers write programs in Rust, which compile to WebAssembly and run on the Gear runtime. Ethereum wallets and tooling will not work with it directly.

What is the VARA token used for?

VARA is the native token. It is used to pay transaction fees, to stake and help secure the network, and to vote on governance. Fee levels can change over time, so check current figures in a wallet or explorer before you transact.

How does Vara reach consensus?

Vara runs on Substrate and uses a nominated proof-of-stake model. Validators produce and finalize blocks, and token holders can nominate them by staking VARA. Compared with proof-of-work, this uses far less energy.

How much value is locked in DeFi on Vara?

At the time of writing, the DeFi total value locked on Vara is about $20,976, which is very small next to major chains. It suggests DeFi activity on the network is limited. Figures like this change daily, so treat it as a snapshot.

Are there Vara dApps listed on this site?

Our site does not list any Vara dApps yet. This page will fill in as reviews are added. In the meantime, check the project's official channels for apps that are live, and be careful with any app you cannot verify.
