## What is Firo (FIRO)?
Firo (FIRO) is the native cryptocurrency of the Firo blockchain, a network designed for private digital payments. It launched in 2016 under the name Zcoin and later adopted the Firo name. FIRO is used to transfer value on its own network and pay transaction fees. It is not primarily a token issued on Ethereum or another smart-contract chain; wrapped versions may exist on other networks, but those are separate representations of FIRO and carry additional bridge or issuer risks.
Firo’s focus is transaction privacy. Its protocols have included Zerocoin, Sigma and Lelantus, with Lelantus Spark presented as its current privacy system. Firo also supports Spark Assets, which are intended to let users issue privacy-preserving tokens within the Firo ecosystem. These features make FIRO different from a general-purpose smart-contract token, though they do not make every activity involving FIRO private in every circumstance.
## How Firo’s privacy features work
Firo’s Lelantus Spark protocol is designed to conceal transaction details, including the sender, recipient and amount. The project also describes support for hiding asset types. Firo additionally uses Dandelion++ to make it harder to identify the originating network address when a transaction is first relayed. These are different layers: on-chain privacy aims to obscure transaction information, while Dandelion++ addresses how a transaction enters the peer-to-peer network.
Privacy depends on correct software, sound cryptography and careful use. It should not be treated as a guarantee that a person cannot be identified. Exchanges, wallet providers, device data, transaction timing, mistakes in handling funds or legal investigations may expose information outside the protocol’s protections. Firo’s privacy technology has changed over time, so users should check which protocol and wallet features are active for the transaction they plan to make. Spark Assets are an ecosystem feature, not a promise that every asset or service built around Firo has the same privacy properties.
## Supply and network design
FIRO’s maximum supply is 21.4 million coins. As of 2026-11-05, about 19.2 million were in circulation, and the reported total supply was also about 19.2 million. These figures can change as network issuance and supply accounting change. A maximum supply limit does not determine what FIRO will be worth, and circulating supply alone does not show how much is readily available to trade.
Firo uses proof-of-work mining with the MTP algorithm to secure its blockchain. Its network also has masternodes, which support features including ChainLocks and InstantSend through Long-Living Masternode Quorums. The project describes ChainLocks as an added defense against certain chain-reorganization attacks and InstantSend as a way to provide faster transaction finality. As of 2026-11-05, FIRO’s market capitalization was about $14.8 million; market capitalization and trading activity change constantly and should be treated as snapshots, not forecasts.
## What is FIRO used for?
FIRO’s main stated use is as digital money for transactions on the Firo network, with privacy features for people who want to limit what transaction details are publicly visible. It can also be used to pay network fees. The project’s Spark Assets feature is intended to support the creation of privacy-preserving tokens, but those assets are distinct from FIRO and may have different uses and risks.
Firo has also been used beyond ordinary payments: its blockchain was used for a Thai political party leadership election in 2018. That historical example shows a use of the network, but it does not establish that FIRO is widely accepted for payments today. Availability can vary by country, exchange and service. Before sending FIRO, confirm that the receiving wallet supports native Firo, check the address and network carefully, and consider whether the recipient or service can handle the privacy features you intend to use.
## Risks and storage
FIRO’s price can be volatile, and the token may be difficult to trade or use in places where exchanges or merchants do not support it. Privacy-focused cryptocurrencies can also face changing legal treatment, exchange restrictions or compliance requirements. Firo’s cryptographic and network features carry technical risks too: software bugs, attacks, implementation flaws or user mistakes could result in lost funds or reduced privacy. Privacy systems can make transactions harder to analyze, but they do not eliminate every way of linking activity to a person.
For storage, use a wallet that explicitly supports native FIRO and keep its software updated. Secure the recovery phrase offline, never share it, and make a protected backup before relying on a wallet. A hardware wallet may reduce some exposure to online threats if it supports FIRO and is configured correctly, but it cannot protect against every risk. Test a small transfer when using a wallet or address for the first time. Wrapped FIRO on another chain is not the same as native FIRO, so check the asset and network before depositing or withdrawing.
By the numbers
Firo in numbers
Firo (FIRO) is ranked #1,012 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $14.4M and a price of $0.7501 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation ($14.4M) is close to its market cap, so little new supply is still to come.
The price was down 10.8% over 7 days, down 21.3% over 30 days, down 55.8% over the past year. It trades about 99% below its all-time high of $139.77, set on Dec 25, 2017.
About 19.23M FIRO are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 21.4M (90% issued).
24-hour trading volume was about $104K, or 0.7% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.
CoinGecko groups FIRO under Privacy coins, Zero-knowledge (ZK) tokens.

FIRO FAQs
What is FIRO used for?
FIRO is the native cryptocurrency of the Firo blockchain. It is used for transfers and network fees, while the project’s privacy protocols are designed to obscure transaction details.
Are Firo transactions private?
Firo is designed to conceal details such as sender, recipient and amount through its privacy protocols, and Dandelion++ helps obscure where a transaction originates on the network. These features do not guarantee that a user’s identity or activity can never be linked to them.
What is the maximum supply of FIRO?
Firo has a maximum supply of 21.4 million FIRO. About 19.2 million were circulating as of 2026-11-05; supply figures can change over time.
How is the Firo network secured?
Firo uses proof-of-work mining with the MTP algorithm and also has a masternode layer. Masternode quorums support network features including ChainLocks and InstantSend.
How can I store FIRO?
Use a wallet that explicitly supports native FIRO, keep its software current and store the recovery phrase securely offline. Confirm the network before sending, especially because wrapped versions of FIRO on other chains are not the same as native FIRO.
What is the market cap of Firo?
As of Nov 6, 2026, Firo had a market cap of about $14.4M, ranking #1,012 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.
What is the all-time high of FIRO?
Firo's all-time high is $139.77, reached on Dec 25, 2017. Its all-time low is $0.2796 (Dec 1, 2016). Past prices say nothing about future returns.
What is the circulating supply of FIRO?
As of Nov 6, 2026, about 19.23M FIRO were in circulation, against a maximum supply of 21.4M.
