## What is TerraClassicUSD (USTC)?

TerraClassicUSD (USTC) began as an algorithmic stablecoin in the Terra ecosystem. It was designed to track the US dollar through an automated mechanism involving LUNA, now known as LUNC. That mechanism was disabled after the Terra ecosystem collapsed in May 2022, and USTC lost its dollar peg. It is now a freely traded crypto asset whose price moves with supply and demand, rather than a stablecoin with an active system to keep it worth one dollar. The name and stablecoin label describe its original design, not a guarantee of its current value. USTC remains associated with the Terra Classic ecosystem. Its market value and ability to trade can change, and holders should not assume that it can be redeemed for dollars.

## What is USTC used for?

USTC is used in parts of the Terra Classic ecosystem, including trading, DeFi applications and gas fees, according to publicly available project information. Its role and availability can depend on the specific application and network; a token being used in an ecosystem does not mean every dApp accepts it. Since the original peg-maintenance mechanism is no longer active, USTC should not be treated as a reliable dollar substitute for payments or savings. Its price can fluctuate substantially, and an application’s USTC balance may not be readily convertible to cash or another asset at a predictable rate. Before using USTC in a dApp, check the asset and network it supports, the transaction fees, and any risks associated with the application itself.

## USTC price and supply

As of 2026-11-05, USTC’s price was about $0.0045, with a market capitalization of about $25.2 million and 24-hour trading volume of about $1.0 million. These are time-sensitive figures, not fixed values. The reported circulating supply was about 5.57 billion USTC, compared with a total supply of about 6.07 billion. No maximum supply was specified. A market price far below one dollar reflects that USTC no longer maintains its former peg. Market capitalization is an estimate based on price and circulating supply; it does not mean holders can sell all tokens at that price. Trading activity, available liquidity and market conditions can affect the price and the amount a seller receives.

## Networks and storage

USTC is part of the Terra Classic ecosystem and is also issued on Osmosis. The exact form of the asset can differ between networks, so confirm the network and token details before depositing, withdrawing or sending USTC. Sending a token to an address on the wrong network can result in funds that are difficult or impossible to recover. Use a wallet that explicitly supports the relevant network and asset, and check any bridging or transfer steps carefully. In a self-custody wallet, protect the recovery phrase offline and never share it with a person or website claiming to help. A wallet stores the credentials used to control tokens; it does not remove the risks of price changes, network errors or an application failure.

## Risks to understand

USTC carries the risks of a volatile crypto asset, as well as the specific risk that its former dollar peg is no longer maintained. Its value could fall further, and market liquidity may be limited or vary between trading venues. DeFi use can add smart-contract, operational and counterparty risks; a dApp may fail, be exploited or change how it supports an asset. Token transfers also involve network and address risks, and transactions may not be reversible. USTC is not equivalent to cash or a bank deposit, and its historical stablecoin design does not promise a fixed redemption value. Consider whether you understand these risks before interacting with USTC, and do not rely on a past price or peg as an indication of future performance.

What is USTC used for?

USTC is used within parts of the Terra Classic ecosystem, including trading, DeFi applications and gas fees. Whether a particular dApp accepts it depends on that application and the network.

Which networks support USTC?
