## What is Taiko?

Taiko is an Ethereum-equivalent zero-knowledge rollup, a type of Layer 2 network designed to process activity outside Ethereum while remaining compatible with its tools and smart contracts. The project describes the network as open source and permissionless, with operations intended to be run by the community rather than centralized operators. That design aims to make using Taiko feel familiar to people who already use Ethereum.

TAIKO is the project’s token, but it is separate from the Taiko network itself: the network can have uses and applications beyond holding or transferring TAIKO. As with other rollups, people may use applications on Taiko for activities such as trading, lending, or minting digital assets. The availability and risks of any particular application depend on that application, not just on the underlying network. TAIKO is categorized as both a Layer 2 and zero-knowledge token.

## What is TAIKO used for?

TAIKO is described as a governance token and as having a role in Taiko’s protocol mechanisms. Governance can give token holders a way to participate in decisions about the network, subject to the voting rules and processes in effect. The token is also described in connection with bonding mechanisms in Taiko’s rollup design. The precise requirements and consequences of those mechanisms can depend on the protocol’s current implementation.

Do not assume that TAIKO is required to pay ordinary transaction fees simply because it is associated with the Taiko network. A network’s token and its transaction-fee currency are not always the same. Check the current Taiko documentation and the wallet or application you are using to confirm which asset is needed for a transaction. Token features can change through protocol upgrades or governance decisions, so confirm current utility before relying on a particular use. Holding TAIKO by itself does not guarantee voting power, rewards, or a role in operating the network.

## TAIKO supply and supported chains

TAIKO has a maximum supply of 1 billion tokens. About 241.8 million were circulating out of that total as of 2026-11-05. The difference between circulating and maximum supply matters: additional tokens may enter circulation over time, depending on the project’s distribution and release arrangements. A maximum supply does not mean all tokens are currently available to trade.

TAIKO is listed as a token on Ethereum, BNB Chain, and Taiko, and it is the native token associated with Taiko. If you transfer tokens between networks, make sure the receiving wallet or exchange supports the specific chain and token version. A transfer to an unsupported network or address can result in loss of access. Token balances and supply figures may also differ between chains because of bridged or wrapped representations; check the contract and network details rather than relying on the ticker alone.

## Risks and storing TAIKO

TAIKO is a volatile crypto asset. Its market price can move sharply, and its value may be affected by token releases, demand, network adoption, governance decisions, technical failures, and wider crypto-market conditions. As of 2026-11-05, its price was about $0.072, its market capitalization about $17.4 million, and its fully diluted valuation about $72 million. These are time-sensitive figures, not estimates of future value.

Taiko’s rollup design also carries risks, including smart-contract vulnerabilities, operational or bridge failures, and changes to protocol rules. Permissionless operation and open-source code do not remove those risks. If you hold TAIKO, use a wallet that supports the correct network and token, protect your recovery phrase offline, and verify addresses and contract details before sending funds. Never share a recovery phrase or private key. Consider how a loss of the full amount would affect you; this is not a recommendation to buy or sell.

By the numbers

Taiko in numbers

Taiko (TAIKO) is ranked #913 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $17.2M and a price of $0.0709 as of Nov 7, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $70.9M, so roughly 24% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was down 5.8% over 7 days, down 18.2% over 30 days, down 68.2% over the past year. It trades about 98% below its all-time high of $3.80, set on Jun 5, 2024.

About 242.02M TAIKO are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 1B (24% issued).

24-hour trading volume was about $2.18M, or 13% of its market cap: high turnover.

TAIKO is the native token of Taiko; it also has token contracts on 2 chains we track, including Ethereum, BNB Chain. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

CoinGecko groups TAIKO under Layer 2 tokens, Zero-knowledge (ZK) tokens.
