What iUSD is

iUSD is a stablecoin that lives on Cardano and is issued by the Indigo Protocol, a decentralized finance (DeFi) application. The project describes it as Cardano's first fault-tolerant, fully collateralized native stablecoin, released in November 2022 as part of Indigo Protocol v1.

The token is designed to track the median value of three other stablecoins: USDC, TUSD and USDT. The project says this median design lets iUSD keep its peg even if one of the three falls off its target value. iUSD is a synthetic asset rather than a token backed by cash held in a bank, so its stability depends on the collateral and rules inside the protocol.

People can get iUSD in two main ways. They can buy it on a Cardano decentralized exchange like any other Cardano native asset, or they can mint it inside the Indigo Protocol by locking ADA as collateral.

What the token is used for

iUSD is mainly meant to be a unit of account and a medium for trading on Cardano. Because it is a stablecoin, traders often hold it to move in and out of volatile assets without converting back to ADA each time. The project also presents it as a tool for trading strategies, especially alongside the protocol's collateral design.

The Indigo Protocol uses iUSD as the debt that minters take on when they lock ADA. Holders can also use iUSD on Cardano apps that accept Cardano native assets, though the project materials do not list a specific set of partner applications, so readers should check each app's own documentation before relying on it.

The Indigo DAO governs the token's parameters. Token holders who take part in governance can vote on settings such as the Minimum Collateralization Ratio for iUSD and the other Indigo iAssets. Public sources provided do not describe a fixed utility beyond these uses, so any other use should be treated as unconfirmed.

Supply and market data

The market data provided is dated 2026-11-05. As of that date, iUSD traded at about 0.98 US dollars, with a market capitalization of about 9.3 million US dollars and roughly 12,000 US dollars of trading volume over 24 hours. The listing shows a market cap rank of 1291, and the price was down about 0.7 percent over seven days and about 0.9 percent over one year.

The circulating supply and total supply are both listed as about 9.52 million iUSD, and the data shows no maximum supply. Because the circulating and total figures match, the data does not show a separate pool of unissued tokens. Prices and supply can change quickly, so these numbers are a snapshot and not a guide to current conditions.

The data also lists an all-time high of about 2.16 US dollars on 2026-07-20 and a very low all-time low recorded in January 2024. The low figure is far below the current price and may reflect thin trading or data quirks, so treat historical extremes with care.

How minting and the peg work

The Indigo Protocol is built on collateralized debt positions (CDPs). A user locks ADA in a position and mints iUSD against it. The position has to stay above the Minimum Collateralization Ratio, which means the ADA locked must be worth more than the iUSD debt by a set margin. If the ADA price falls toward that threshold, the user can add more ADA to keep the position safe.

If a position falls below the required ratio, the protocol's Stability Pool providers can take the user's ADA collateral in exchange for Stability Pool iUSD, which keeps the iUSD in circulation backed by more than its value. The project says this liquidation process is meant to keep iUSD over-collateralized and the protocol solvent.

A distinct feature the project highlights is CDP Liquid Staking. Users keep receiving ADA staking rewards from their stake pool delegation while their ADA sits in a CDP as collateral. This is presented as a unique feature of the Indigo design, but readers should confirm how staking works for their own setup.

Risks and storage

The main risk is that the peg breaks. iUSD's value depends on the protocol's collateral rules, the price of ADA, and the reliability of the reference stablecoins. A sharp fall in ADA can push positions toward liquidation, and the liquidation process could fail to keep the token at its target during fast or thin markets. One search result also points to past depeg issues for iUSD, so readers should not assume the peg always holds.

Other risks include smart contract bugs, governance decisions by the Indigo DAO that change collateral ratios, and low liquidity. The trading volume listed for 24 hours is very small compared with the market capitalization, which can make it hard to exit a position at a fair price.

For storage, iUSD is a Cardano native asset, so it can be held in any Cardano wallet that supports native tokens. Users should check the wallet's support, keep their recovery phrase offline, and verify contract addresses from official project sources before sending funds. By the numbers

Indigo Protocol iUSD in numbers

Indigo Protocol iUSD (IUSD) is ranked #1,268 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $9.44M and a price of $0.9910 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation ($9.44M) is close to its market cap, so little new supply is still to come.

The price was down 1.1% over 7 days, down 0.5% over 30 days, down 1.7% over the past year. It trades about 54% below its all-time high of $2.16, set on Jul 20, 2026.

About 9.52M IUSD are in circulation. No hard maximum supply is listed, so new tokens can still be issued.

24-hour trading volume was about $21.1K, or 0.2% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.

IUSD has token contracts on Cardano. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.
