Our verdict on Pepe
4.5/10PEPE suits traders who knowingly want exposure to meme-coin sentiment and accept that there is no product, revenue or roadmap behind the token. Its main strengths are simplicity, wide exchange availability and a reported launch with no presale, no taxes, burnt liquidity and a renounced contract. The main caveat is risk: prices are driven by attention, the project publishes no team or audit information, and copycat tokens are common. Verify the contract address and size positions as a speculative bet.

What is Pepe?
Pepe (PEPE) is a meme coin that launched in 2023 as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. It borrows its name and imagery from the Pepe the Frog internet meme and positions itself as a rival to dog-themed meme coins such as Dogecoin and Shiba Inu.
The token has no stated utility. One exchange write-up compares it to a tradable piece of digital collectible art and says it makes no complex promises. The total supply is given as 420.69 trillion tokens.
Sources agree that it launched without a presale and without transaction taxes. A separate report says PEPE was later issued on Solana as a canonical token through Wormhole, and saw heavy trading volume within a day of going live. The project's homepage could not be confirmed, and details such as team, audits and roadmap are not published in the sources reviewed.
How Pepe works
PEPE is a plain ERC-20 token. It has no protocol, app or staking system behind it. Its value comes from market demand, which is driven by meme culture, social attention and exchange listings.
According to one write-up, the supply of 420.69 trillion tokens was mostly sent to a liquidity pool at launch, with the LP tokens burnt so the pool cannot be withdrawn and the contract renounced so the deployer cannot change it. Anyone can then trade PEPE against ETH or stablecoins through decentralized exchange pools or on centralized exchange order books.
The token has since been extended to Solana. One report says it was issued there as a canonical SPL token using Wormhole's Native Token Transfer standard. This means the Solana version is intended to be an official representation rather than an unrelated copy.

Key features
01
ERC-20 token on Ethereum
PEPE is a standard ERC-20 token on Ethereum, so it works with common wallets and decentralized exchanges.
02
Fixed large supply
Total supply is stated as 420.69 trillion tokens, a figure in line with the token's meme branding.
03
No presale, no taxes
Reports say it launched with no presale and no transaction taxes, so launch tokens went mostly to the liquidity pool.
04
Burnt LP, renounced contract
One source says the liquidity pool tokens were burnt and the contract renounced, which limits the creator's control over the token.
05
Solana expansion via Wormhole
PEPE was issued as a canonical SPL token on Solana through Wormhole's Native Token Transfer standard, extending it beyond Ethereum.
06
Broad market access
The token is listed on centralized exchanges and tradable on decentralized exchanges, including a PEPE/USDT market on at least one exchange.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Simple ERC-20 design with no taxes reported, so buying and selling does not carry a built-in fee
- Reported fair-style launch with no presale and most supply sent to the liquidity pool
- Liquidity pool tokens burnt and contract renounced, according to one source, which limits creator control
- Listed on multiple exchanges and tradable on decentralized exchanges, so entry and exit are easy
- Expanded to Solana through Wormhole's canonical token system
Watch out for
- No utility, product or roadmap: the token's value depends entirely on sentiment and trading interest
- Highly volatile, and a meme coin can lose most of its value quickly
- No published team, audit report or official site could be confirmed from the sources reviewed
- Sources disagree on details such as burns and holder redistribution, so tokenomics claims need checking on-chain
- Many look-alike tokens and 'next Pepe' presales exist, which raises the risk of buying the wrong contract or a scam
Pepe fees
The token itself is reported to carry no buy or sell tax. One exchange write-up describes a redistribution and burn system, which conflicts with this, so the contract is the final authority.
Normal costs still apply. On Ethereum you pay network gas, and a decentralized exchange charges its own swap fee and may involve slippage in volatile markets. Centralized exchanges publish their own trading fee schedules. The project does not publish a fee table of its own.
Is Pepe safe?
PEPE is a speculative meme asset, not a regulated product. No audit report, team identity or official website was confirmed in the sources reviewed, and the project does not publish them. A renounced contract and burnt liquidity, if verified on-chain, reduce some creator-related risks such as rug pulls, but they do not protect holders from price drops.
Scams are common around popular meme tokens. Fake contracts, impersonation tokens and 'next Pepe' presales promoted in videos and ads are widespread, so verify any contract address before buying. Use a non-custodial wallet only with sites you trust, and be wary of approval requests. Cross-chain versions add bridge and issuer risk beyond the original Ethereum token.
Crypto trading is not legal or suitable everywhere. Check the rules where you live, and treat this as a high-risk asset.
7 steps
How to get started with Pepe
- 1
Install a non-custodial wallet such as MetaMask and secure the recovery phrase offline.
- 2
Fund the wallet with ETH to cover both the purchase and network gas fees.
- 3
Find the official PEPE contract address from a trusted source and check it carefully, since copycat tokens exist.
- 4
Connect the wallet to a decentralized exchange such as Uniswap, paste the verified address and select PEPE.
- 5
Review the quote, slippage and gas cost, then confirm the swap in your wallet.
- 6
Alternatively, buy PEPE on a centralized exchange that lists it, following that exchange's KYC and withdrawal rules.
- 7
Decide your position size in advance and only use money you can afford to lose.
Who Pepe is for
PEPE is for experienced or curious crypto users who understand meme coins and want a liquid, widely listed example. It is not suited to anyone looking for yield, utility or a stable store of value, or to buyers who cannot tolerate sharp losses.
Pepe FAQs
What is Pepe (PEPE) coin?
PEPE is a meme coin launched in 2023 as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. It is based on the Pepe the Frog internet meme and has no stated utility beyond trading and community interest.
What is the total supply of PEPE?
Sources describe a total supply of 420.69 trillion tokens. One write-up says about 93.1% went to the liquidity pool at launch, with the LP tokens burnt and the contract renounced.
How do I buy PEPE?
The usual route is to set up an Ethereum wallet such as MetaMask, fund it with ETH, connect to a decentralized exchange like Uniswap and swap ETH for PEPE using the verified contract address. Centralized exchanges also list it. Always verify the contract address from a trusted source, because copycat tokens exist.
Does PEPE have a tax?
Reports say PEPE launched without a presale and with zero buy or sell taxes. One exchange page describes a redistribution and burn mechanism, which conflicts with that account, so check the contract on-chain rather than relying on a summary.
Is PEPE available on Solana?
Yes. One report says PEPE went live on Solana in September as a canonical SPL token issued through Wormhole's Native Token Transfer system. The original token remains an ERC-20 on Ethereum.
Is PEPE a safe investment?
It is a high-risk speculative asset. There is no product, revenue or roadmap behind it, and prices can swing sharply. Only risk money you can afford to lose and do not treat this page as financial advice.
