ActiveCentrifuge Review 2026: Tokenized Real-World Assets Onchain
Centrifuge is an onchain infrastructure protocol that lets asset managers tokenize funds, credit and other institutional assets and connect them to DeFi liquidity. It is built for issuers and institutions first, with DeFi users reaching the same assets as tokens.

Our verdict on Centrifuge Protocol
6.5/10Centrifuge suits institutional issuers and investors who want tokenized funds and credit with onchain reporting, and DeFi users who want exposure to those assets through supported platforms. Its main strength is the depth of its asset-management tooling and the reported partnerships. The main caveat is that returns and safety depend on off-chain managers, legal wrappers and custody, not just on the smart contracts. Fees are not published, and the protocol is not designed as a simple retail savings product.

What is Centrifuge Protocol?
Centrifuge is an onchain asset-management protocol for tokenized real-world assets. The project describes its purpose as enabling asset managers to tokenize, manage and distribute tokenized funds onchain, while giving investors access to a diversified set of tokenized assets. DefiLlama files it in the RWA category and lists the CFG token.
The platform's homepage highlights a few recent milestones. Janus Henderson and Centrifuge launched JQQQ, a blockchain-native fund tracking the Nasdaq-100 Index. Centrifuge also says it has tokenized more than $3B over its lifetime and has 50+ DeFi integrations. A March 2026 announcement describes a partnership with LayerZero to bring Centrifuge's tokenization infrastructure into an interoperability protocol.
The protocol's history includes a move off its original Polkadot-based chain with the V3 migration in 2025. Governance has been transitioning from that legacy context to the current setup. The project also operates an asset management arm, Anemoy, that offers managed fund structuring and reporting.
How Centrifuge Protocol works
Centrifuge is a set of smart contracts and tools that turn traditional financial products into tokens. An asset manager sets up a pool, which is a container for a set of assets such as loans or treasuries, and defines share classes that represent different investor groups or terms. Tokens represent those shares, and vaults let them be deposited and redeemed according to the rules of each pool.
The protocol's documentation describes a Hub that acts as the source of truth for a token's supply accounting and net asset value. Reporting on assets is tied to the chain, so investors can see holdings and performance without relying only on periodic statements. Off-chain legal and custody arrangements still matter, and they sit outside the code.
For a newcomer, the easiest way to think of it is as a fund administration system that lives onchain. The DeFi part comes from making the resulting tokens transferable, so they can be used as collateral or traded where integrations exist. Whether that works smoothly depends on the specific asset, the legal wrapper and the platforms accepting the token.

Pros and cons
What we like
- Targets a real use case: putting regulated fund and credit products onchain with transparent reporting.
- Lists two audits on DefiLlama and describes its infrastructure as audited.
- Has a clear split between issuer tools and investor access, with a managed option through Anemoy.
- Names named institutional partners, including Janus Henderson, and integrations with major DeFi lending platforms.
- Publishes documentation on how pools, share classes, tokens and vaults fit together.
Watch out for
- Most of the product is aimed at asset managers and institutional issuers, so retail users have a narrower role than the marketing suggests.
- Returns depend on the underlying real-world assets, such as treasuries, credit and funds, and on the off-chain managers who run them.
- Off-chain legal structures, custodians and reporting sit outside the smart contracts, so users rely on those parties as well as the code.
- The protocol moved off its original Polkadot-based chain with the V3 migration in 2025, which adds upgrade and governance transition risk.
- The fee schedule is not published on the homepage, which makes it hard to compare costs against other tokenization platforms.
Centrifuge Protocol fees
Centrifuge does not publish a fee schedule on its homepage or in the material used for this review. A 2022 governance forum thread asks the community for feedback on protocol fees but does not set out figures. Costs for issuers are likely to be set in individual agreements, and any fund-level fees would be shown in the product documentation for each fund.
Is Centrifuge Protocol safe?
Centrifuge is a protocol, so the main safety questions are smart-contract risk, the legal and custody arrangements behind each asset, and counterparty risk on the asset manager side. DefiLlama lists two audits. The homepage describes its infrastructure as audited, but this review did not verify individual audit reports, so check the documentation for auditor names and dates.
Real-world assets carry risks that a pure crypto protocol does not. Holders depend on the asset manager, custodians and any underlying borrowers to meet their obligations, and onchain records do not remove those legal risks. Redemption terms, transfer restrictions and reporting frequency vary by product.
Regulatory status depends on the product and jurisdiction. The project does not publish a single licence that covers all of its activity in the information used here. Tokenized funds may be restricted to certain investor types or countries, so confirm eligibility before buying.
7 steps
How to get started with Centrifuge Protocol
- 1
Decide whether you are an issuer or an investor, since the platform is built mainly for asset managers.
- 2
Read the Centrifuge documentation on pools, share classes, tokens and vaults to understand how a product is structured.
- 3
Check the specific fund or token you want, including its underlying assets, manager and reporting.
- 4
Confirm which chain and token standard the product uses, and whether your wallet supports it.
- 5
Use the Launch app link on the official site to view available products.
- 6
Check the fund documents for fees, redemption terms and any transfer restrictions before buying.
- 7
Confirm that holding or buying this type of asset is legal where you live, and get independent advice if needed.
Who Centrifuge Protocol is for
Centrifuge is best suited to asset managers who want to issue tokenized funds or credit, and to investors with the eligibility and risk tolerance for real-world asset products. Retail DeFi users who want simple, self-custodied yield will find the structure more involved than most DeFi protocols.
Centrifuge Protocol FAQs
What is Centrifuge Protocol?
Centrifuge is a protocol for issuing and managing tokenized real-world assets. Asset managers use it to put funds, credit and treasuries onchain, and investors can hold the resulting tokens and use them in some DeFi applications.
What is the CFG token used for?
CFG is the native governance token of the Centrifuge protocol, according to the project's ecosystem listing. Its role is governance, and that responsibility has been moving from the legacy chain context toward the current protocol.
Has Centrifuge been audited?
DefiLlama lists two audits for the protocol. The project's homepage describes its infrastructure as audited, but the individual audit reports and auditor names are not summarised here, so check the documentation before relying on them.
What assets are on Centrifuge?
Centrifuge lists a Janus Henderson Nasdaq-100 fund (JQQQ) and says it has tokenized more than $3B over its lifetime and has 50+ DeFi integrations. Those are the project's own figures and have not been independently verified in this review.
Can I use Centrifuge tokens in DeFi?
Centrifuge says its tokens can be used across DeFi platforms, and it lists integrations with lending and liquidity venues. Whether a given token can be used in a given app depends on that app's own listing and risk settings.
