## What is Peercoin (PPC)?
Peercoin (PPC) is a cryptocurrency whose network began operating in 2012. It is among the early projects to use proof-of-stake, a method in which coin holders can help secure a network, rather than relying only on energy-intensive mining. Peercoin also uses proof-of-work mining as part of its design. The project drew on Bitcoin’s code and technical approach, but has its own network and monetary rules.
PPC is the network’s native coin. It is used for transactions and network fees, and it has a role in proof-of-stake participation. Peercoin’s aim has included making network security less dependent on mining energy. That history does not by itself show how widely PPC is used today or whether it suits a particular use case. Its practical value depends on factors such as network activity, wallet and exchange support, security, and user demand.
## What is PPC used for?
Peercoin uses both proof-of-work and proof-of-stake in its network design. Proof-of-work involves miners using computing power, while proof-of-stake lets coin holders participate in securing the network. Peercoin is notable for introducing proof-of-stake early in cryptocurrency history, though the approach is now used by many other projects.
PPC is used to pay transaction fees on Peercoin. The project description states that a fee of 0.01 PPC per kilobyte is destroyed rather than paid to a recipient. PPC also has a role in proof-of-stake participation, sometimes described as minting. These functions are tied to the Peercoin network, not automatically to any token that happens to use the PPC name on another blockchain. Peercoin is a cryptocurrency network, not a general-purpose smart-contract platform by default; check a specific application’s documentation before assuming it supports PPC or Peercoin transactions.
## PPC supply and inflation
Peercoin has no fixed maximum supply. Its monetary design has been described as aiming toward an annual inflation rate of 1%, while transaction-fee destruction can offset some issuance. This is a design feature, not a promise that the circulating supply will grow by exactly 1% every year. The actual supply depends on protocol rules and network activity.
As of 2026-11-05, reported circulating supply was about 30.53 million PPC, and total supply was also about 30.53 million. These figures can change, and supply definitions may differ between trackers. A lack of a hard cap means PPC’s supply should not be treated as scarce by a fixed-maximum rule like Bitcoin’s. It also does not determine the coin’s value: demand, network use, liquidity, and market conditions matter. Check current protocol and market information if you need up-to-date figures.
## Chains and storage
PPC is native to the Peercoin blockchain. Market data also lists PPC representations on Ethereum and Polygon. These versions are not the same thing as coins held directly on Peercoin: they are tokens on separate networks, and their operation may depend on a bridge, custodian, or other token mechanism. Before sending funds, confirm the exact asset, network, and receiving address. Sending a token to an address or wallet that does not support its network can lead to loss.
For native PPC, use a wallet that explicitly supports the Peercoin network. Keep recovery phrases and private keys offline and private, and test a small transfer before moving a larger amount. For Ethereum or Polygon representations, check the token’s contract address against a trusted source and ensure your wallet supports that chain. Wallet features and supported assets can change, so verify current compatibility rather than relying on a token ticker alone.
## Risks to understand
PPC carries market and technical risks. Its price can fluctuate sharply, and thin trading can make it harder to buy or sell at a quoted price. As of 2026-11-05, reported 24-hour trading volume was about $182, a figure that changes and may not capture every trading venue. Low or fragmented liquidity can increase the difference between buy and sell prices.
Peercoin also faces competition from newer networks and other payment systems. A long operating history does not guarantee future adoption, development, or security. Protocol changes, software bugs, wallet failures, lost keys, and attacks on exchanges or bridges can cause losses. Wrapped or bridged PPC adds risks specific to the service or contract that represents it on another chain. There is no guaranteed return from holding or staking PPC. Research the network and custody method, and only risk money you can afford to lose.
By the numbers
Peercoin in numbers
Peercoin (PPC) is ranked #1,157 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $11.2M and a price of $0.3673 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation ($11.2M) is close to its market cap, so little new supply is still to come.
The price was up 29.3% over 7 days, up 8.9% over 30 days, up 8.3% over the past year. It trades about 96% below its all-time high of $9.45, set on Jan 12, 2018.
About 30.53M PPC are in circulation. No hard maximum supply is listed, so new tokens can still be issued.
24-hour trading volume was about $240, or 0.0% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.
PPC has token contracts on 2 chains we track, including Ethereum, Polygon. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

PPC FAQs
What is PPC used for?
PPC is the native coin of the Peercoin blockchain. It is used for transactions and fees, and has a role in proof-of-stake participation. PPC tokens represented on Ethereum or Polygon are separate from native Peercoin coins.
Does Peercoin use proof-of-stake?
Peercoin’s design uses proof-of-stake and proof-of-work. Proof-of-work uses computing power, while proof-of-stake allows coin holders to take part in network security. Peercoin was one of the early cryptocurrencies to introduce proof-of-stake.
What is the maximum supply of PPC?
No fixed maximum supply is specified for PPC. Peercoin’s design has been described as aiming toward 1% annual inflation, with transaction fees destroyed; that target does not guarantee an exact yearly supply change.
Which blockchains support PPC?
Native PPC runs on the Peercoin blockchain, while PPC representations are also listed on Ethereum and Polygon. Confirm the asset and network before transferring, because tokens on one chain may not be supported by a wallet or address on another.
How can I store Peercoin?
Use a wallet that explicitly supports the relevant PPC asset and blockchain. Protect recovery phrases and private keys, verify token contract details for Ethereum or Polygon versions, and check current wallet support before sending funds.
What is the market cap of Peercoin?
As of Nov 6, 2026, Peercoin had a market cap of about $11.2M, ranking #1,157 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.
What is the all-time high of PPC?
Peercoin's all-time high is $9.45, reached on Jan 12, 2018. Its all-time low is $0.00000002813 (Apr 13, 2022). Past prices say nothing about future returns.
What is the circulating supply of PPC?
As of Nov 6, 2026, about 30.53M PPC were in circulation; no fixed maximum supply is listed.
Which blockchains is PPC on?
It has token contracts on Ethereum, Polygon.
