UR (SN25): What It Is, Uses and Risks

UR is a decentralized peer-to-peer privacy network built on Bittensor Subnet 25. Its network is designed to route encrypted internet traffic through connections supplied by independent participants. URnetwork VPN is the first product running on it. The project describes traffic as encrypted end to end and routing as distributed, so that no single network node should see both a user’s identity and their online activity. These are design goals, not a guarantee that every use is anonymous or safe: privacy also depends on the software, device, configuration and wider internet services involved. The protocol is open source, and network activity is coordinated through incentives on Bittensor. UR is commonly presented under AI and DePIN categories, but its stated use is a privacy and traffic-routing network rather than an AI service.

SN25 is the subnet token for Bittensor Subnet 25. The project says it is distributed through Bittensor’s subnet emission mechanism, which connects token issuance to the subnet’s incentive system. Public sources do not specify a separate payment function, governance right, staking requirement or fee discount for SN25, so those uses should not be assumed. The network itself relies on independent participants providing connections to route traffic, while onchain incentives coordinate activity. URnetwork VPN is the first product named as using the network. That makes the token closely associated with the subnet’s operation, but it does not by itself establish how much demand the product creates for SN25 or whether users need to hold the token to use the VPN. As of 2026-11-05, the reported circulating and total supply were both about 5.31 million SN25, with a stated maximum supply of 21 million. These figures may change as emissions continue. The market capitalization was about $5.2 million and the reported price was about $0.97 on that date; both are snapshots, not fixed values. The token had a reported all-time high of $5.22 on 2025-06-10 and an all-time low of about $0.0088 on 2026-04-03. Past prices do not indicate what it may be worth later. A relatively small market value and trading volume can mean that orders have a noticeable effect on price, while token markets can move sharply in either direction. SN25 is associated with Bittensor Subnet 25, rather than being described as a general-purpose coin for a separate layer-1 blockchain. The project description identifies Bittensor as the system used for onchain incentives, and labels SN25 as the subnet token. Public sources do not identify other chains where SN25 is issued or confirm a native token deployment on another network. A token with a similar name or symbol on another chain may be unrelated or may carry additional bridge and contract risks. Before sending or receiving SN25, confirm the exact subnet, wallet network and token details using current official project information. Do not rely on a ticker alone: symbols are not unique, and an incorrect network or address can result in an irreversible loss.

SN25 has both network-related and market risks. A privacy network’s protections can depend on its implementation, participant behavior, software updates and the services a user accesses; encryption does not eliminate all tracking or security threats. The project’s distributed-routing design should not be treated as a guarantee of anonymity. The token also faces volatility, liquidity, adoption and subnet-emission risks. Its stated maximum supply does not mean the circulating supply or market value will remain constant. For storage, use a wallet that explicitly supports the relevant Bittensor subnet and SN25, and protect its recovery phrase offline. Confirm the network and destination address before transferring, and beware of fake tokens, impersonation and requests for recovery credentials. Wallet compatibility and custody options can change, so verify them through current official project materials. Losing access to a self-custody wallet may mean losing the tokens.
