BitMart Token (BMX): What It Is, Uses and Risks

BitMart Token, with the ticker BMX, is an ERC-20 token that runs on the Ethereum network and was issued by BitMart Exchange, a centralized crypto exchange. According to the project's own description, the token first appeared in December 2017 under the name BMC. In January 2018 the team changed the ticker to BMX after finding that the BMC name was already used by another project. Some smart contract views and block explorers may still display the older BMC label, but the project says BMX is the symbol it uses. Because BMX is issued by a company rather than being the base currency of its own blockchain, its value and usefulness are closely tied to the exchange behind it. Public sources describe BMX as a token meant to support the BitMart ecosystem, and the project says its broader aim is to make crypto easier to access in many places. The price was about 0.619 dollars at its all-time high on 2024-06-04 and about 0.0067 dollars at its all-time low on 2020-03-12. The seven-day change was about positive 11.5 percent, while one-year change and 24-hour trading volume were not available. The project description mentions a total volume of 1,000,000,000 tokens, which does not match the supply figures in the data, so the supply numbers should be checked against current sources. These figures are snapshots, not predictions.

BMX is issued on Ethereum as an ERC-20 token and is not the native coin of its own chain. Holders should only send ERC-20 compatible tokens to Ethereum-compatible addresses, since sending to a different network can make funds hard or impossible to recover. The main risks are concentrated in the issuer. If the exchange restricts withdrawals, fails or faces legal action, holders may be unable to sell. The price history shows very large swings over time, and news headlines in public reporting mentions sharp drops, though we have not verified those reports.
