What Bitget Wrapped BTC is

Bitget Wrapped BTC (BGBTC) is a token that represents Bitcoin and is designed to be pegged 1:1 to BTC. It is issued by the crypto exchange Bitget. A wrapped token like this is a stand-in for another asset: the original Bitcoin is held in reserve, and a matching token is created that can move around a different blockchain. In this case that chain is Ethereum.

The point of wrapping is access. Bitcoin itself cannot interact directly with Ethereum-style applications, so holders who want to use their BTC in DeFi usually need a version that works there. Bitget describes BGBTC as a way to keep exposure to BTC while taking part in DeFi yield opportunities that were not available to plain BTC holders.

BGBTC is not Bitcoin and it is not a separate cryptocurrency with its own economic design. Its value depends on the peg holding, which in turn depends on Bitget keeping the backing reserves and honoring redemptions. Public announcements from the December 2024 launch describe it as backed by 1:1 BTC reserves. Treat that as the issuer's claim and look for current, official reserve information before relying on it.

What BGBTC is used for

According to the project description, BGBTC has a few main uses. The first is holding BTC-linked value in a form that can be used on-chain. The second is earning: users can stake BGBTC on Bitget Earn, the exchange's yield product.

Bitget also says it plans to widen the on-chain use cases for BGBTC and to work with several Bitcoin-ecosystem DeFi projects. Users who stake BGBTC are described as collecting reward points, called BGPoints, from those partner projects. The points are said to be convertible into token airdrops after each project's token generation event. Whether any given airdrop happens, and what it would be worth, is not something public sources confirm, so it should not be counted on.

Users can subscribe to and redeem BGBTC through a dedicated channel on Bitget's product page. That subscription and redemption path is what is meant to keep the token's price close to BTC. Beyond these items, the public description is short on specifics, such as which DeFi protocols currently accept BGBTC. Check the issuer's current documentation for that before assuming a particular use is available.

Supply and tokenomics

BGBTC has no fixed maximum supply listed. Its supply is meant to follow the amount of BTC held in reserve: tokens are created when users subscribe and removed when they redeem. That makes supply flexible rather than a schedule set in advance.

As of 2026-11-05, the circulating and total supply were both about 1,384 tokens. At roughly $79,751 per token, that gives a market cap and fully diluted value of about $110.4 million, which ranked it around 256th by market cap. Because the token tracks Bitcoin, its price is largely a function of the BTC price rather than of demand for BGBTC itself.

There is no separate tokenomics story in the usual sense. No governance rights, fee-sharing, emissions or team allocation are described. The token is a claim on reserves, not an investment with its own supply mechanics. At the time of writing, the 24-hour trading volume was only about $66,139, which is small relative to the market cap and suggests that most activity happens through subscription and redemption rather than open-market trading.

Chains and how it is held and traded

BGBTC is issued on Ethereum, so it follows the ERC-20 standard and can be held in any wallet that supports Ethereum tokens. Once it is in a self-custody wallet, it can in principle be sent to compatible DeFi apps, subject to whatever those apps choose to support.

There are two broad ways people hold it. One is on Bitget itself, where users can subscribe, redeem and stake through the exchange's products. In that case Bitget holds the assets on the user's behalf. The other is on-chain, in a personal wallet, where the user controls the keys.

Trading is another route. BGBTC has appeared on market data trackers with USDT trading pairs, but volume is thin. At the time of writing, daily volume was a tiny fraction of the market cap. In low-volume markets, larger orders can move the price and the quoted price can drift away from the BTC value. Subscription and redemption through the issuer is the mechanism meant to keep the peg tight, though it depends on the issuer's terms, availability and any eligibility requirements, which can include identity checks.

History and price context

Bitget publicly announced BGBTC on December 11, 2024, presenting it as a wrapped Bitcoin token backed by 1:1 BTC reserves and meant to open DeFi opportunities for BTC holders. Public sources do not give a precise on-chain launch date, so none is stated here.

Price history mostly mirrors Bitcoin. According to the data as of 2026-11-05, BGBTC's all-time high was about $87,138 on 2026-09-23, and its all-time low was about $58,296 on 2026-06-30. The price at the time of writing was about $79,751, and the seven-day change was close to flat, at roughly 0.06 percent. No one-year change was available.

No major incidents, such as a depeg or a security breach, are mentioned. That should not be read as a guarantee. A short track record, a small market cap compared with older wrapped Bitcoin tokens like WBTC, and thin trading volume mean there is less history to judge the peg's resilience under stress. Nothing here is a forecast or a recommendation to buy or sell.

Risks to understand

The biggest risk is issuer and custody risk. BGBTC's value rests on Bitget holding the underlying BTC and honoring redemptions. If the reserves were lost, frozen or mismanaged, or if redemptions were suspended, the token could trade below the value of BTC. Holders depend on the issuer's solvency and policies, not on a trustless mechanism.

Liquidity risk is also real. With low daily volume, exiting a large position through the market could mean a worse price than the BTC value. Redemption may be the better route, but it depends on the issuer's terms.

Smart contract risk applies to the token contract itself and to any DeFi protocol that accepts it. Bugs and exploits in those protocols can cause losses even when the peg is intact. Staking and yield products add further layers of risk, including changes to terms.

The BGPoints and airdrop programs are uncertain. The points are only promised to convert after other projects' token launches, and those outcomes are not guaranteed. Regulatory treatment of exchange-issued wrapped assets can also change, which could affect availability depending on where you live.

How to store it safely

Because BGBTC is an ERC-20 token, it can be kept in a self-custody Ethereum wallet. A hardware wallet is the usual choice for larger amounts, since the private keys stay on the device and are not exposed to your computer or phone. Write down the recovery phrase on paper, keep it offline, and never type it into a website or share it with anyone.

Before sending or accepting any BGBTC, confirm the correct token contract address from the issuer's official documentation. Fake tokens with copied names and symbols are common on Ethereum. Send a small test transaction first, and remember that you need a little ETH in the wallet to pay network fees.

Keeping BGBTC on the exchange is simpler, but it means trusting the exchange with custody, and you are subject to its account rules and any withdrawal limits. Use strong, unique passwords and two-factor authentication on any account tied to it. Be wary of unsolicited messages about airdrops or yield offers, and be careful when approving token permissions for DeFi apps. Revoke approvals you no longer need.

By the numbers

Bitget Wrapped BTC in numbers

Bitget Wrapped BTC (BGBTC) is ranked #264 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $105M and a price of $76,117 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation ($105M) is close to its market cap, so little new supply is still to come.

The price was down 3.1% over 7 days, down 10.0% over 30 days. It trades about 13% below its all-time high of $87,138, set on Sep 23, 2026.

About 1.38K BGBTC are in circulation. No hard maximum supply is listed, so new tokens can still be issued.

24-hour trading volume was about $189K, or 0.2% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.

BGBTC has token contracts on Ethereum. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

BGBTC FAQs

Is BGBTC the same as Bitcoin?

No. BGBTC is a wrapped token issued on Ethereum that is designed to be pegged 1:1 to Bitcoin. Its value depends on the issuer's reserves and redemption process, and it carries risks that holding BTC directly does not.

Who issues BGBTC and on which blockchain?

Bitget is the issuer, and the token is subscribed to and redeemed through Bitget's product page. The token is issued on Ethereum, so it is an ERC-20 token that can be moved to compatible wallets.

What is the price of BGBTC?

As of 2026-11-05, BGBTC traded at about $79,751, close to the level you would expect for a Bitcoin-pegged token. The price moves with BTC and can change at any time, so check a live source.

Can you earn yield with BGBTC?

Bitget says users can stake it on Bitget Earn and collect BGPoints from partner Bitcoin DeFi projects. Those points are described as convertible into airdrops after the projects' token launches, but nothing is guaranteed. Yield products carry their own risks.

What are the main risks of BGBTC?

The main risks are issuer and custody risk, low trading liquidity, smart contract bugs and uncertainty over the points and airdrop programs. A depeg from BTC is possible if reserves or redemptions run into trouble.

Can I hold BGBTC in my own wallet?

Yes, it is an ERC-20 token, so wallets supporting Ethereum tokens can hold it. Verify the contract address from official sources, and keep some ETH for fees. Holding it on the exchange instead means the exchange has custody.

What is the market cap of Bitget Wrapped BTC?

As of Nov 6, 2026, Bitget Wrapped BTC had a market cap of about $105M, ranking #264 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.
