Real-World Asset (RWA) Protocols: Ranked dApps and How They Work
Real-world asset protocols bring Treasuries, credit, property and commodities onchain as tokens. This page explains how they work, how to compare them and where the risks sit.

Real-world asset, or RWA, protocols connect blockchains to assets that exist outside them. The 40 projects on this page cover tokenized Treasury and money market funds, private credit, trade finance, fractional real estate, precious metals, uranium, carbon allowances and even GPU-backed loans. Some are open DeFi products, while others are limited to verified or accredited investors.
The list is ranked by our own scoring, and total value locked gives a rough sense of scale. At the time of writing, OnRe holds about $307.5M, OpenTrade about $245.6M and Aave Horizon RWA about $215.9M, while many entries at the bottom hold less than $2M. Size is not safety, so the sections below explain how these products work, how to compare them and what can go wrong. Nothing here is financial advice, and you should be an adult (18+, or 21+ where required) and check that a product is legal where you live before using it.

How real-world asset protocols work
An RWA protocol puts a claim on something that exists offchain into a token you can hold in a crypto wallet. A manager or custodian holds the underlying asset, collects the income and passes it on. The token reflects that through a rising price, a growing balance or a separate payout.
The design usually has three layers. The first is the legal wrapper, such as a fund, a note or an LLC, which decides what the token holder actually owns. The second is the smart contract, which handles minting, transfers, redemptions and sometimes compliance checks. The third is the offchain operator, which holds the assets and reports on them.
That structure explains why RWA products differ from typical DeFi. Brickken, for example, is a tokenization platform with built-in KYC and KYB tools for businesses issuing tokens, while Anemoy Capital runs Centrifuge-powered funds for eligible onchain investors. Aave Horizon RWA works the other way: qualified users borrow stablecoins against tokenized assets they already hold. In each case, the onchain part is only half of the picture, and the offchain half decides what happens in a dispute or a default.
The main types of RWA products
Most protocols on this page fall into a handful of groups, and the group tells you more about the risk than the chain does.
Treasuries and money market funds. Usual USD0, Theo Network thBILL, ZTLN-P, Arca Labs ArCoin, Sygnum FIUSD Liquidity Fund and Clearpool TPOOL lean on short-term government debt or similar funds. Sky RWA is the collateral class that links this kind of asset to USDS and sUSDS.
Credit and trade finance. OpenTrade, R25, Kea Credit, Travessia Credit, eva Markets, Paimon, CHATEAU and Defa By InvoiceMate lend to businesses or fund invoices and settlements. Yields can be higher, and so can default risk.
Real estate. Lofty, Propbase, RealtyX and Tangible RWA offer fractional property exposure. Lofty is notable for selling rental property shares from about $50.
Commodities. Meld Gold, Oro Finance and GOLDSTATION RWA focus on gold, Uranium.io on uranium, Alcum on copper and CANA Holdings on California carbon allowances.
Unusual collateral. OnRe is backed by reinsurance premiums, USD AI by GPU-backed loans and LandX Finance by farmland and future harvests.
How to choose an RWA protocol
Start with access. Some products are open to any wallet, while others restrict participation to KYC-verified, qualified or institutional users. Anemoy Capital, KAIO and Sygnum FIUSD Liquidity Fund fall in the restricted group, so confirm eligibility before planning around them.
Next, look at what backs the token and who holds it. A good product explains the asset, the custodian, the legal structure and how often holdings are reported. Vague descriptions of yield with no named asset are a warning sign.
Then check redemption. Can you exit at net asset value, how long does it take and is there a minimum? Secondary-market liquidity for many RWA tokens is thin, so a token can trade below its underlying value when many holders sell.
Also consider these points:
- Yield source: Treasury interest is easier to understand than loan spreads or advertised ranges like the 8-18% APY shown for Defa By InvoiceMate.
- Chain: pick a network you already use and can afford the fees on. KAIO and Theo Network thBILL span many chains, while Lofty sits on Algorand.
- Scale and track record: larger TVL suggests more usage, though it does not prove safety. Newer entries like Ledgity Yield and RealtyX do not yet have a score here.
Split your attention between the contract and the issuer, because both can fail.
Key risks to understand
RWA products inherit every smart contract risk of DeFi and add risks from the offchain world. Understanding which applies to your pick matters more than chasing the highest yield.
Issuer and custodian risk. If the company holding the assets fails, the token may be only as good as a legal claim in court. This applies to gold vaults at Meld Gold and Oro Finance, to property held in LLCs at Propbase, and to funds at Arca Labs.
Credit risk. Private credit, invoice financing and small-business lending can default. Protocols like Kea Credit use risk scoring, and others rely on curators or single-borrower positions, as with eva Markets. A model or a curator can be wrong.
Liquidity risk. Redemptions may be limited to certain windows, and secondary markets can be shallow, especially for smaller TVL projects.
Regulatory risk. Rules for tokenized securities vary by country and change. A product open today may close to some regions later.
Smart contract and bridge risk. Multi-chain tokens add bridge exposure, and newer protocols have less operating history.
Advertised yield. Projected APY is not guaranteed. Only commit what you can afford to lose, and be an adult (18+, or 21+ where required) in a place where the product is legal.
Trends shaping RWA protocols in 2026
A few patterns stand out in this list at the time of writing. Ethereum still hosts the largest number of products, but activity is spreading. OnRe leads our list on Solana, USD AI runs on Arbitrum, R25 spans Pharos and Sui, and Lofty and Meld Gold use Algorand. Newer chains such as Plume, Monad and Plasma also appear.
Collateral is getting more varied. Alongside Treasuries, the list includes reinsurance premiums, GPU loans, farmland, carbon allowances and pre-IPO equity exposure through Paimon. Some of these are early and untested through a full credit cycle.
Institutional involvement is visible too. KAIO tokenizes funds from large managers, Sygnum FIUSD Liquidity Fund wraps a money market fund, and Aave Horizon RWA brings tokenized assets into a well-known lending market. Curated vault models, seen at R25, OpenTrade and Sierra Protocol, let platforms and fintechs package yield for their own users.
Finally, compliance is becoming part of the product. Built-in KYC, permissioned pools and Shariah-compliant structures, as at Nawa Protocol, show that many RWA protocols are designed around regulation rather than avoiding it. Expect more gated access, not less.
Frequently asked questions
What is a real-world asset (RWA) protocol?
A real-world asset protocol turns a claim on something offchain, such as a Treasury fund, an invoice pool, a rental property or vaulted gold, into a blockchain token. A manager or custodian holds the underlying asset. The token tracks its value or income, and the rules of the claim are set by legal documents as well as smart contracts.
Where does RWA yield come from?
The yield comes from the underlying asset, not from crypto trading. Examples are interest on Treasury bills, repayments on private loans, rent from property or premiums from reinsurance. If the asset underperforms or a borrower defaults, the yield can fall or losses can occur.
Do I need to pass KYC to use RWA protocols?
Often yes. Products such as Anemoy Capital, KAIO and Sygnum FIUSD Liquidity Fund are aimed at eligible, accredited or institutional investors. Others, like HiYield and Travessia Credit, use KYC-verified participants. Some DeFi-style tokens are more open, but you should read each product's terms before depositing.
Are tokenized real-world assets safe?
No. Smart contract bugs, issuer or custodian failure, borrower defaults, thin redemption liquidity and legal uncertainty all apply. A token backed by Treasuries is a different risk from one backed by small-business loans or farmland. Treat any advertised APY as a target rather than a promise.
Which blockchain has the most RWA protocols?
The data on this page shows the largest groups on Ethereum, with many protocols also on Solana, Avalanche, Base, Arbitrum and newer chains like Plume. The best chain depends on where your funds already are and which product you want. Check which chain a specific token actually settles on before you bridge or buy.
Is it legal for me to use these protocols?
You should be an adult in your jurisdiction, at least 18 and 21 or older where local rules require it. Tokenized securities and funds are regulated in many countries, so confirm that you are allowed to hold a given product where you live. Do not try to get around geographic limits or identity checks.
