Our verdict on Bumper

4.5/10

Bumper suits experienced DeFi users who are curious about on-chain price protection and are comfortable researching a protocol independently. Its main strength is a clear idea: a floor price on ETH or wrapped BTC with upside preserved. The main caveat is uncertainty. Current activity is unclear, a price page shows no volume, and fees, audits and team details are not published in the sources reviewed. Verify that it is live and read the documentation before depositing anything.

What is Bumper?

Bumper is a DeFi protocol that offers price protection for crypto assets. Descriptions of it compare the idea to setting a stop loss on a portfolio, with the difference that the holder keeps the asset and its upside. Its initial release was reported to cover Ethereum and wrapped Bitcoin.

The protocol has its own token, BUMP. In late 2021 a press report said the project closed a presale that raised over $3.75 million, with CEO Jonathan De Carteret quoted on demand for a volatility solution. A token-sale tracker lists a much smaller funding total, so the figures should be treated with caution.

What the project looks like today is harder to judge. One price page shows BUMP at about $0.00002922 with a circulating supply of 195.68M, no reported 24-hour volume and a 0.00% change. The homepage could not be retrieved for this review, and the project does not publish current fee, audit or team information in the sources reviewed.

How Bumper works

Bumper's core idea is price protection for crypto holders. A user picks an asset and a floor price. If the market price falls below that floor, the user can trade the asset for a stablecoin at the floor level. If the price rises, the user keeps the gains, because the position is never closed.

Sources describe a peer-to-pool risk model. Instead of pairing each protection buyer with a specific seller, risk is pooled, and those who supply liquidity to the pool earn from providing cover. The exact pool mechanics, pricing and payouts are not set out in the material reviewed, so read the official documentation.

The BUMP token is part of the design. According to a 2021 press report, people who want protection ('takers') deposit BUMP for as long as their protection lasts. The same report says protected assets can then be used in other DeFi protocols, for example as collateral to mint a stablecoin.

6 features

Key features

01

Floor price protection

Users choose a protected price level for an asset and can redeem it for a stablecoin at that floor if the market falls below it.

02

Upside kept

Protection does not close the holder's position, so gains above the floor stay with the user.

03

Peer-to-pool risk model

A source describes the design as a peer-to-pool risk model rather than matching individual buyers and sellers of protection.

04

BUMP-gated protection

Protection takers must deposit BUMP for the duration of their protection position, per a 2021 press report.

05

Composable protected assets

The protocol says protected assets can be used in other DeFi products, such as CDPs, while remaining covered.

06

ETH and wBTC focus

One analysis says the initial release covered Ethereum and wrapped Bitcoin.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Clear concept: a floor price on an asset while keeping upside
  • Protected assets are described as usable in other DeFi products such as CDPs
  • Uses a pooled risk model rather than needing a counterparty for each position
  • Has a named CEO and a documented 2021 fundraising and token launch history

Watch out for

  • Current activity is unclear: the BUMP token shows a flat 0.00% 24-hour change and no reported trading volume on one price page
  • The project does not publish fees, audit reports or team details in the sources reviewed
  • Protection requires holding and depositing BUMP, which adds exposure to a very low-priced token
  • Funding figures conflict between sources (a press report cites over $3.75 million for the presale, while a token-sale tracker lists a much smaller total)
  • Much of the available coverage is from the 2021 presale period and may be out of date

Bumper fees

Fees are not published in the sources reviewed. That covers the cost of taking out protection, any premium, and redemption or protocol fees.

Anyone considering Bumper should look for fee and premium details in the project's official documentation or the app interface before opening a position. Network gas costs would apply to any on-chain action.

Is Bumper safe?

No audit reports, custody details or incident history appear in the sources reviewed, and the project does not publish them there. Protection products carry smart-contract risk and pool risk: if the pool cannot cover redemptions in a sharp market drop, protection may not pay out as expected.

BUMP trades at a very low price, and one price page reports no 24-hour volume. A thinly traded token can be hard to buy or sell, which matters because protection takers must deposit it. This is not financial advice. Confirm the protocol is live, read the documentation and use only amounts you can afford to lose.

6 steps

How to get started with Bumper

  1. 1

Find the project's official website and documentation through a source you trust, and confirm the protocol is still operating.

  2. 2

Read how the floor price, the protection duration and the redemption terms work, and look for any audit reports.

  3. 3

Check the live BUMP price, circulating supply and liquidity, since protection takers must deposit the token.

  4. 4

Set up a self-custody wallet that supports the network the protocol runs on.

  5. 5

Start with a small test amount of an eligible asset, such as ETH, to learn the process and the costs.

  6. 6

Set a floor price and duration, and note when the position expires and how to redeem.

Who Bumper is for

Bumper is aimed at crypto holders who want downside protection on assets like ETH or wrapped BTC without selling them. It fits users who already understand DeFi wallets, collateral and token deposits, and who are willing to verify current status and terms themselves.

Bumper FAQs

What is Bumper?

Bumper is a DeFi protocol for price protection. Users set a floor price on an asset such as ETH or wrapped BTC, and can redeem it for a stablecoin at that level if the market falls, while keeping upside if it rises.

What is the BUMP token used for?

BUMP is the protocol's token. According to a 2021 press report, users who want to take out protection must deposit BUMP for the length of the protection position, which makes it the entry point to the system.

Is Bumper the same as a stop loss?

Not exactly. A stop loss closes your position when the price falls. Bumper is described as letting you keep the position and upside while holding a right to redeem at the floor price for a stablecoin.

Is Bumper still active?

One price page lists BUMP at about $0.00002922 with 195.68M in circulating supply, a 0.00% 24-hour change and no volume figure. That suggests very thin or no trading, so check live data before relying on it.

Can I use protected assets in other DeFi protocols?

Protected assets are described as usable elsewhere in DeFi, for example as collateral in a CDP system such as MakerDAO to mint DAI. This comes from the project's own description reported in a 2021 article, so confirm current support.

Has Bumper been audited?

The sources reviewed do not mention any audit. Check the project's official documentation and repositories for audit reports before depositing funds.
