Our verdict on Angle Protocol

5.0/10

Angle suits DeFi users who want stablecoins backed by more collateral than they issue and who are comfortable with a smaller, less-documented protocol. Its main strength is the over-collateralized design described in its 2021 whitepaper and the range of pegged tokens it has issued, including euro-denominated ones such as agEUR. The main caveat is the lack of current public information. The sources do not confirm fees, audit history or live usage, and one market snippet shows a very small market capitalization for the ANGLE token. Verify the current state of the contracts before holding or using any Angle token.

What is Angle Protocol?

Angle Protocol describes itself as a decentralized, over-collateralized stablecoin protocol. Users deposit collateral and mint stable tokens against it, so each token is designed to be backed by more value than it represents. The project's 2021 whitepaper says its goal is to mint stable assets that can be traded on a blockchain.

Public reporting names several tokens from the protocol. One source describes EURA and USDA as euro- and dollar-pegged stablecoins it issued. Another describes agEUR as its euro stablecoin and stEUR as a staked version that earns yield from real-world assets. Sources differ on naming, so check the current token list through the project's own channels.

ANGLE is the governance token. One third-party page notes that a distributor for the protocol operates on Arbitrum. A market snippet dated late October 2026 lists a price near $0.00016 and a market capitalization of about $52,761. Aggregator figures like these change quickly. The sources do not identify a current official website, so the status of its products is not confirmed here.

How Angle Protocol works

A stablecoin is a token designed to hold a steady value, such as one euro or one dollar. Angle Protocol aims to keep its tokens stable by requiring collateral that is worth more than the tokens issued. A user deposits approved collateral into the protocol and mints a stable token against it. When the user returns the stable token, the protocol releases collateral back under its rules.

Over-collateralization is the buffer. If the collateral's value falls, the extra margin absorbs some of the drop before the stable token's backing is at risk. The protocol's rules set how much collateral is needed, which assets are accepted, and what happens when backing falls short. The sources reviewed do not spell out every parameter, so the whitepaper and current documentation are the places to confirm details.

ANGLE, the governance token, is used to vote on protocol decisions. Holders can influence changes such as collateral settings. This is a general function of governance tokens rather than a detailed description of the ANGLE contract.

4 features

Key features

01

Over-collateralized stablecoins

Tokens are minted against collateral valued above the stablecoin issued, which is the design the whitepaper describes.

02

Euro and dollar pegs

Sources name euro-pegged and dollar-pegged tokens, including agEUR and EURA.

03

Staked euro token

One source describes stEUR as a staked version of agEUR that earns returns from real-world assets.

04

ANGLE governance token

ANGLE is described as the protocol's governance token.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • The over-collateralized design aims to keep each token backed by more than its face value.
  • A whitepaper from 2021 sets out the design goals in public.
  • Several pegged tokens are described, including euro-denominated ones.
  • Issuance is described as running through smart contracts rather than a single company's balance sheet.

Watch out for

  • Current public information is thin. The sources do not confirm live activity, fee levels or audit history.
  • Sources disagree on token names (EURA and USDA in one, agEUR and stEUR in another), which makes it harder to know which tokens are current.
  • The ANGLE market snippet shows a very small market capitalization, which points to low liquidity and high price risk.
  • Over-collateralization reduces depeg risk but does not remove it, especially if collateral values fall sharply.
  • As a smart-contract protocol, it carries contract bug and governance-change risk.

Angle Protocol fees

The sources do not publish a fee schedule for minting, redeeming or holding Angle tokens. Users would normally see costs in the protocol interface and in the transaction preview in their wallet, along with network gas fees on the chain they use.

Check the project's current documentation for any protocol fees before minting or trading.

Is Angle Protocol safe?

No audit reports, custody model details or incident history appear in the sources reviewed. Because the protocol runs on smart contracts, the main risks are contract bugs, collateral price failures or oracle problems, and governance decisions that change protocol settings.

Stablecoin holders also face depeg risk, meaning the token may trade below its target value. Regulatory status is not stated in the sources, and rules for stablecoins vary by country. Check that using these tokens is legal where you live.

DeFi tools are not insured deposits, and losses can be total. Only use amounts you can afford to lose.

6 steps

How to get started with Angle Protocol

  1. 1

Find the current official website and token addresses from the project's own channels, since sources disagree on token names.

  2. 2

Confirm which blockchains the current version supports. One third-party page links a distributor to Arbitrum.

  3. 3

Read the whitepaper to understand the collateral and minting rules.

  4. 4

Check whether collateral ratios or reserve information are published before minting or buying.

  5. 5

Start with a small amount you can afford to lose.

  6. 6

Watch the token's price against its peg before relying on it for payments or savings.

Who Angle Protocol is for

Angle is best suited to DeFi users who already understand collateralized stablecoins and want euro-pegged exposure, and to researchers following over-collateralized stablecoin design. It is less suited to readers who need current fee schedules, audit reports or a clear support channel, since the sources do not show those clearly.

Sources describe ANGLE as the governance token of the Angle Protocol. Governance tokens generally let holders vote on protocol parameters and changes. The sources reviewed do not describe any other use for ANGLE.

Is Angle Protocol safe to use?

Sources do not confirm current activity, audit reports or incident history for Angle Protocol. Because it runs on smart contracts, users face contract bug, collateral price and governance risks. Only use amounts you can afford to lose.
