## What is Virtue USD?

Virtue USD (VUSD) is a crypto-backed stablecoin associated with Virtue, a decentralized borrowing protocol built on IOTA. The protocol’s stated model lets users mint VUSD by locking supported crypto assets as collateral in an over-collateralized system. In other words, the collateral is intended to be worth more than the VUSD issued against it, providing a buffer if collateral prices fall.

VUSD is designed to track the US dollar, but that goal is not a guarantee that each token can always be exchanged for one dollar. Its price can move away from the target because of market conditions, liquidity, collateral changes or problems with the protocol. Virtue describes VUSD as a way to borrow against IOTA ecosystem assets without selling them. Public sources do not establish the full set of protocol rules, collateral limits or redemption terms, so users should check those details before relying on the token.

## How VUSD is used

VUSD’s central use is as the asset borrowers receive when they lock supported collateral through Virtue. The project identifies IOTA and stIOTA as examples of supported collateral. Borrowers can use VUSD within the IOTA DeFi ecosystem or hold it as a dollar-oriented crypto asset, although its practical usefulness depends on whether dApps and markets accept it and have sufficient liquidity.

Virtue describes its borrowing fees as fixed and predictable, but actual costs and conditions depend on the protocol’s current rules. The project also describes a Stability Pool in which users deposit VUSD to participate in liquidations. That role can involve losses or changes in the value of deposited assets; it should not be treated as a guaranteed return. Arbitrage and flash strategies are also mentioned as possible activities, but they can be technically complex and expose users to execution, liquidity and smart-contract risks. Review the mechanics and costs before using any of these features.

## Supply and blockchain

VUSD is issued on IOTA; public sources do not identify it as the native token of a blockchain or list other issuance chains. Make sure any wallet, exchange or dApp you use supports VUSD on IOTA specifically. A token with the same ticker on another network may be unrelated or may not be transferable to the IOTA version.

As of 2026-08-15, the reported circulating and total supply were both about 584,037 VUSD. No maximum supply was listed. The reported price was about $0.984, below the intended one-dollar reference, and the reported market capitalization was about $574,500. These are time-sensitive figures, not fixed protocol limits or a promise of redemption value. Supply can change as users mint or repay VUSD, and market prices and trading availability can change quickly. Check current protocol and market information before making decisions based on these figures.

## Risks and storage

VUSD carries the usual risks of a stablecoin, plus risks tied to its collateral and lending protocol. If collateral prices fall sharply, liquidations may not happen quickly or at expected values, and the token could lose its dollar peg. A smart-contract flaw, oracle failure, exploit, governance decision or disruption in the IOTA ecosystem could also affect collateral, minting, transfers or redemptions. Limited market liquidity can make it difficult to trade VUSD near its intended value. Do not assume that an over-collateralized design eliminates these risks.

For storage, use a wallet that explicitly supports IOTA assets and VUSD, and verify the asset identity and network before sending tokens. Keep recovery phrases and private keys secret and offline, and test unfamiliar transfer flows with a small amount where appropriate. If you connect a wallet to Virtue or another dApp, review transaction permissions and avoid signing requests you do not understand. Custodial platforms introduce separate counterparty and account-access risks. Consider whether you can tolerate losing some or all of the value you put into the token or its related protocol features.
