What MegaUSD (USDM) is
MegaUSD (USDM) is a dollar-pegged stablecoin built for MegaETH, a layer 2 network that describes itself as a real-time blockchain secured by Ethereum. The project describes USDM as the native stablecoin of MegaETH, designed to power real-time applications on the network and to be integrated across wallets, apps and onchain services there.
USDM is issued through Ethena's stablecoin stack. Ethena is the protocol behind USDe, another dollar-denominated crypto asset. In practice, that means MegaETH did not build its own issuance system from scratch. It uses Ethena's infrastructure to create and manage the token.
The aim of any stablecoin is to trade close to one US dollar. At the time of writing, USDM traded at about $0.992 (as of 2026-11-05), a little under the target. A gap of under one percent is not unusual for stablecoins, but it is a reminder that the peg is maintained by market and issuer mechanisms rather than guaranteed by anything on the chart. This page is an explainer, not financial advice, and it does not predict where the price will go.
What USDM is used for
USDM's main role is to serve as a dollar unit of account and settlement asset inside the MegaETH ecosystem. Because MegaETH targets very fast transactions, a native stablecoin gives apps there a stable asset for payments, trading and lending without every app having to rely on a bridged token from elsewhere.
There are a few specific uses that have been publicly reported:
- Trading and liquidity. GMX was featured in a MegaETH points campaign in which users could trade, provide USDM liquidity and refer friends to earn MegaETH points.
- Funding MEGA buybacks. In February 2026 the MegaETH Foundation said it would route revenue, or yield, from USDM into regular purchases of the MEGA token.
- Wallet and app integration. The project says USDM is intended to be built into wallets, apps and onchain services on MegaETH.
USDM is separate from MEGA, which is the network's own token for gas, staking and governance according to news coverage. USDM is the stable dollar-style asset, while MEGA is the network asset. Beyond these points, the public information does not give a complete list of integrations, so check each app's own documentation before assuming USDM is supported.
Supply and tokenomics
At the time of writing (as of 2026-11-05), USDM had a market capitalization of about $17.3 million, which put it around rank 923 by market cap. Circulating and total supply were both about 17.47 million tokens, so the fully diluted value matches the market cap. No maximum supply is listed.
That last point matters for a stablecoin. Unlike a fixed-supply asset such as MEGA, which news coverage says has a supply of 10 billion, USDM's supply is not meant to be capped. It is expected to expand when people mint it and shrink when they redeem it, so the number can change with demand.
Other figures from the data:
- 24-hour trading volume was about $550,000.
- The 7-day price change was about -0.19%.
- The recorded all-time high was about $1.40 on 2026-08-24, and the recorded all-time low was about $0.517 on 2026-06-10.
Those extremes are far from a dollar peg. For a stablecoin, readings like that can reflect thin early trading, a data quirk or a real depeg, and the project does not say which. Treat them with caution and look at current liquidity before relying on the peg.
Chains and how USDM is held and traded
USDM is listed as issued on two networks: MegaETH and Ethereum. MegaETH is the home network, where the token is meant to be used day to day. Ethereum is the base layer that MegaETH settles to, and having the token there allows movement between the two.
Holding USDM works like holding any ERC-20-style token. You need a wallet that supports the network you are using, and you need a small amount of that network's gas token to send transactions. Moving USDM between Ethereum and MegaETH normally involves a bridge or a similar transfer tool. Always confirm which network a token is on before sending it, since sending to the wrong network can result in lost funds.
In terms of trading, USDM is a small asset by market size, with daily volume at about $550,000 at the time of writing. Liquidity is likely to sit mostly in onchain pools on MegaETH, such as those in apps like GMX, and possibly on some exchanges. Small pools mean larger trades can move the price more than expected, so check the quoted slippage before swapping. Which specific venues list USDM can change, so check the app you plan to use.
History and notable events
The public record on USDM is fairly short, and the data here does not give an exact launch date. What is known is tied to the rollout of MegaETH and its token economy.
In early February 2026, the MegaETH Foundation announced that revenue from USDM would be used to buy MEGA tokens as a routine, ongoing activity. Commentators at the time raised questions about how sustainable this mechanism is and how transparent it would be, since the buybacks depend on how much revenue USDM generates and how it is reported.
On 8 May 2026, coverage reported that the foundation had kicked off its MEGA token buyback program. That ties USDM's economics directly to the MEGA token's market activity, an unusual link between a stablecoin and a network token.
Later in 2026 the token's recorded price range includes a low of about $0.517 in June and a high of about $1.40 in August. Those values are far outside a normal stablecoin range, and the project does not explain them. Readers should check the price history themselves rather than assume it is a clean peg record. One-year price change data is not available, which fits a token with a short trading history.
Risks to understand
Stablecoins carry several risks, and USDM has some that are specific to its design.
- Peg risk. USDM is not guaranteed to hold one dollar. It traded slightly below $1 at the time of writing, and its recorded history includes much larger swings.
- Issuer and design risk. USDM relies on Ethena's stablecoin stack. Any weakness in that system, including how reserves or hedges are managed, could affect USDM. Read the issuer's own documentation for how redemption and backing work, since public information here do not detail them.
- Liquidity risk. With a market cap of about $17.3 million and modest daily volume, exiting a large position could be costly.
- Network risk. MegaETH is a relatively new layer 2. Bugs, outages, sequencer issues or bridge problems could affect access to the token.
- Revenue-model risk. The plan to use USDM revenue for MEGA buybacks ties the token to a foundation policy that could change, and commentators have questioned its transparency.
- Regulatory risk. Stablecoin rules differ by country and can change.
None of this means USDM is unsafe or safe. It means a holder should size positions with these points in mind.
How to store USDM safely
Storing USDM safely follows the same rules as other onchain tokens, with a few extra checks.
Use a wallet that supports both Ethereum and MegaETH, and confirm that USDM shows up with the correct contract address before you trust it. Copy the address from the project's official documentation, not from a social media reply or a search ad, because fake tokens with the same name are common.
For larger amounts, consider a hardware wallet, which keeps your private keys offline and requires physical confirmation for transactions. Write your recovery phrase on paper, store it somewhere secure and never type it into a website or share it with anyone, including people claiming to be support staff.
Before bridging, check which network you are sending from and to, and send a small test amount first. Be careful with token approvals: apps often ask for permission to spend your tokens, and you should revoke approvals you no longer need. Finally, keep a small amount of the gas token on each network so you are able to move your funds when needed. Do not keep money you cannot afford to lose in any single wallet or protocol.
By the numbers
