Ease vs Firelight: which cover model fits? (2026)

Ease offers mutual cover and underwriting on Ethereum; Firelight lets users stake FXRP to back defined cover markets on Flare. The key choice is between their claims models and the risks you want to take.

How the coverage models differ

Ease and Firelight both connect DeFi coverage with capital that can be used to pay claims, but they offer different ways to participate. Ease has two live products: stNXM, where users underwrite coverage and earn from premiums, and Uninsurance, where participants cover one another without a conventional premium. Its Cross-Asset Yield Vaults are planned, not live.

Firelight centers on FXRP vaults that back portfolios of cover markets. Stakers receive a proportional share of coverage fees paid by program operators. The covered risks are defined market by market, with scope, price and capacity registered onchain. This makes Firelight’s model more specifically tied to FXRP staking and published cover criteria, while Ease offers a choice between underwriting and mutual cover.

Claims, coverage limits and capital risk

The claim process is a major distinction. Ease describes its terms, processes and payouts as fully onchain, without relying on a human claims adjuster. That does not mean every loss is covered or that a payout is guaranteed: Uninsurance spreads losses across participants, and its coverage may not pay out in full.

Firelight uses an independent Risk Consortium to assess incidents against published coverage criteria. When the consortium validates a covered incident, staked capital is slashed to fund a programmatic payout. This provides a defined review step, but it also means payout outcomes depend on the consortium’s judgement. Firelight covers only failures within each market’s stated scope, so users should not assume that other losses qualify. In both protocols, check the applicable terms before depositing; the presence of coverage does not remove the risk of losing capital.

Fees and safety

Neither protocol publishes a complete fee schedule. Ease says Uninsurance has no traditional premiums, while stNXM returns come from coverage premiums. Firelight says stakers receive a share of fees paid by program operators, but does not state the fee rates, cover pricing or any protocol cut. Check each app and its terms for current deposit, withdrawal and coverage conditions before committing funds.

Both list two audits, but the auditors and findings are not named. Audits can help identify issues; they do not guarantee that contracts are free of bugs. Ease also carries exposure to its own contracts and underlying protocols, while Firelight’s key structural risk is slashing after a validated incident. Ease operates on Ethereum and Firelight on Flare, so network gas costs apply to transactions on their respective chains. Fees and risks should be considered separately from any displayed yield.

Which protocol should you choose?

Choose Ease if you want to compare mutual cover with underwriting, prefer an onchain process that does not rely on a human claims adjuster, and are comfortable with Ethereum-only access. Its two live products serve different needs, but neither makes capital risk-free: Uninsurance participants share losses, and stNXM underwriters can lose capital to valid claims.

Choose Firelight if you hold or want to use FXRP on Flare, want to earn a share of coverage fees, and accept slashing risk tied to defined cover markets. Its consortium review may suit users who value incident checks against published criteria, though that adds human judgement to claims. Firelight’s TVL is higher, but that alone does not establish that it is safer or a better fit. For either protocol, read the coverage scope, payout process and withdrawal terms before depositing.

Verdict: Easedefi.org or Firelight?

Choose Ease if you want a choice between mutual cover and underwriting, and value an onchain claims process that does not rely on a human adjuster. Its Ethereum-only products still carry capital risk, and Uninsurance does not guarantee full coverage. Choose Firelight if you want to stake FXRP on Flare for a share of coverage fees and accept that a validated incident can slash your capital. Its defined markets and consortium review suit users comfortable with criteria-based cover and human incident judgement. Neither is a fit for anyone expecting risk-free yield or guaranteed reimbursement.

Frequently asked questions

Which chains do Ease and Firelight support?

Ease runs on Ethereum and Firelight runs on Flare. They do not list support for additional chains.

Have Ease and Firelight been audited?

Ease lists two audits, and Firelight also lists two. Neither names its auditors or findings, and audits do not remove smart-contract risk.

Is capital protected in either protocol?

No. Ease says Uninsurance shares losses across participants, so coverage is not guaranteed in full; stNXM underwriting capital can also be used to pay valid claims. Firelight stakers can lose capital through slashing when a covered incident is validated.

What fees do Ease and Firelight charge?

Neither publishes a fee schedule. Ease describes Uninsurance as having no traditional premiums, while Firelight says stakers receive a share of coverage fees paid by program operators.
